Ultra Varmint Fluted scope base
« on: April 03, 2009, 03:55:08 PM »
I would like to know if the aluminium base that came with the ultra varmint fluted is of good quality or it's better to change it for a steel one? A guy on another forum said the scope base on his Ultra Varmint wrap if the barrel is getting too hot because aluminium thermal expansion coeficient is twice that of steel is that true?

Quick was making a joke.  You will never see any difference except in your credit card bill between the steel and aluminum scope rails.  Larry

If you get your bbl so hot that thermal expansion effects the scope rail you need another gun to shoot while the hot one cools down. Plus you'll have way more problems with other things before the scope rail comes into play. The other part about the scope expanding may have some creditbility if your shootin from the back window of a 57 Mercury and if you are at least keep your bullets on the floor board .I think they would go BANG before the scope does. Go ahead and exhale most of that was somebody blowing smoke up the keister. Kurt
