.357/.44 Barrels
« on: April 01, 2009, 10:31:01 AM »
Hello Everybody,
This is only my 10th post, I just enjoy reading and learning from others.
I purchased a 20 guage rifled NEF shotgun back in 2000 or 2001 or 2002, lost my receipt.  The SN is NK436432.  I have had it fitted for a 12 guage barrel with 3 different chokes and also a 50 cal Huntsman barrel.  Is it possible to have a 357 magnum or 44 magnum barrel fitted to it?  How do you tell a SB1 from a SB2 frame?  Awaiting your assistance,
WLS

All the info you need is in the FAQs and Help sticky including pics of the frames showing the differences, H&R will fit the 357 and 44mag barrels to SB1 or SB2 frames made since 1987 IF they have them in stock, they're out of 44mag barrels now tho.

Thanks Tim.  I'll call NEF tomorrow.  I really would like a 44 barrel since Indiana allows it for gun deer season.

They also allow 357 and I reload both calibers for my Rugers, but feel the 44 gives me more hunting options (game).

The SB1 rifles were developed with Indiana pistol chambered rifle deer hunters as the target market..... just for you!  ;) They also offer them in combos, 357mag w/20ga slug barrel, 44mag w/12ga slug barrel.

Just a general question for anybody.  To what cup/psi levels can you load the NEF 357 and 44 barrels?  Also will they fit a 45colt barrel to a SB1 frame?  Boy I ask a lot of questions.

The handi will handle any max safe load made for pistol rounds, If you go above max safe you are playing with fire. Not Recommended.   And no they will not fit a .45 barrell to a SB1 at least not for now. 8)

BTW a .357 max will throw a 180 gr bullet out at over 2000FPS  you can almost match a .30-30 or .35Rem with it, Thats a real hammer. ;D

As Bob said, they won't fit a 45 Colt Carbine barrel to an SB1 frame, it requires an SB2 frame made 1999 or later. They will fit the 45/410 Survivor barrel to an SB1 since that's what it comes on from the factory.
