jht:  contact the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for hunting information.  The information you receive should include maps that show you the location of the different northern and southern hunting zones and what game is allowed to be hunted in those areas, and when.  The maps should also show the different game management areas near the border of NY/Ma. that you may wish to hunt.  You can also obtain topo maps of those areas as well as maps of public hiking trails for getting to and from those areas.

That info should get you started.  Of course, if you decide to hunt in NYS you will need the appropriate out of state license but, I would also take the time this summer to get to know thsoe areas and to see if you can find where the deer move in that neck of the woods.  HTH and good luck.

NY is has a lot of public land in the Northern Zone. Much of it is mountainous, and no ATVs allowed. I grew up hunting here and still do. The deer arent here in as great a number as the farm country, but is beautiful, free, and if you put in your homework, and a little luck, there are some bruiser bucks up here.
