Range day with the B.C
« on: March 19, 2009, 06:29:00 AM »
Well i finally got a warm day to got to the range. A little windy so i stuck to 50 yds. for load testing. I had five different loads for the jacketed 300 gr. HPs. Best grouping was 1.25". Then i tried the 405's. Two of the three loads shot 2" but the third was the sweet spot. At  first i thought i missed the target with the last 2 of 3 rounds. After closer inspection it was revealed to my brother and i that i put all three almost exactly through the same hole. To be impressed would be an understatement. I also had filled the rear stock with lead shot bringing the weight up to an even 11 lbs. This tamed the felt recoil considerably. I ended up shooting 40rds altogether and some of them were pretty hot without discomfort. It even out grouped my brothers Ruger #1 in 45-70 with a scope. i might even scope the B.C just for load testing at a hundered but it will be iron sights all the way for hunting.

Brad, don't listen to those guys, the rifle is obviously one of those cheap junk Handis.  I'll be glad to take it off your hands, cause I need tomato stakes for next summer. ;)

Seriously, that is very special.  Good loading and good shootin'.  Der aint nuttin like da .45-70 ;D
