Fair price for a .223
« on: March 17, 2009, 01:18:13 PM »
Looking to see what a fair market price would be for a .223 Handi with a 22" heavy barrel.  It has a plain wood stock the forearm is a schnable type.

I'd call 85% condition.  Had quite a bit of rust on it but steel wool seems to have cleaned most of that up.  It has weaver scope mounts and a BSA 3-9X40 scope on it.

Is $175 a fair price or to high?   I'm new to this forum and don't own a Handi.  This is for my dad who is considering purchasing the rifle.  Have no idea how it shoots.

Any advice would be very much appreciated

Welcome to GBO first off and enjoy.
As to the question, for me personally and in the condition it sounds like it's in, $150 is all I would give for it as well.
How's the bore look?

Welcome! Also, is the barrel loose without the forend on the rifle when the action is closed? That's another thing to check as well as are the last 3 digits of the serial number engraved on the left side of the underlug which means it's a factory fitted barrel? What's the two letter serial number prefix? Those determine when it was made and more importantly, what other barrels can be fitted to it, more info can be found in the FAQs and Help sticky on that, check it out, mandatory reading for Handi newbies.  :)

Thanks for all the great information!  The engraving on the barrel matchs the serial number so it is a factory installed barell.  The serial number prefix is NS so based on the FAQ information it was made in 2002.

I really appreciate the help!    Will offer $150 and see what happens.   Great site guys!!!!
