solder or liquid steel
« on: March 14, 2009, 03:15:37 PM »
Afternoon Gents,  :)

I have a shotgun Dbl Bbl with a tang slide safety.  It (the safety) does not always engage.  I looked inside and sure enough the trigger piece and the slide safety do not fully contact and it slips to the side allowing it to fire.  I just need a little more metal on either piece to increase contact area, so they fully engage.   :'(

My questions are.  Has anyone used either solder for this type of build up or epoxy putty (liquid steel) to build up a piece of metal and improve contact surfaces?  Do they hold up/stick well enough.

I know that a weld job would be best but I do not weld and my local gunsmith says he will do it for $200.  Not my 1st  choice.

Any other recommendations? ???

Any help would be appreciated  Thanks Old Moss

Glue has no place on a firearm, especially on a Safety.  Solder is soft, I don't know the exact problem you are having but if the solder could shear off then it is also a bad thing.  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

:)  Thats what I figured.  I new tig or brazed was the best.  Just hoping something a little easier and cheaper.  But I know you get what you pay for Thanks for the sound advise.  Old Moss  ;D

If you can find it a new part may be the best way.
