7-30 WATERS BARREL QUESTION?
« on: March 09, 2009, 02:51:05 PM »
I have a contender 7-30 waters super 14, so my question for you fellows is, have any of you taken advantage of TC's offer to install a screw on muzzle tamer on your barrel and if so did it help on bounce and recoil as they claim? They quote a price of about 60.00 and say a reduced recoil of app.50%. not looking to try and make barrel 16 1/2 inches for a rifle, wont it to stay 14 inches.
Thanks for you comments

I bought a 7-30 Waters barrel with a TC muzzle tamer installed that has an overall length of 14 inches.  Having never shot one without the tamer I can't be much help.  It doesn't kick much (less than half of what my 30-30 does) but is loud.

I have a TC Custom Shop barrel that measures 15" total length
The brake is part of the barrel so I can not say about the screw in.
I really enjoy shooting mine with very little recoil.
Yes, it is VERY loud.
More so than my 700 in 7MM mag
or my M#7 in 7MM-08
I like a brake as I feel I shoot better
Hope that helps a little

The only brake'd "anything" I have is a 14" TC 45-70 barrel. I shoot mostly real blackpowder loads out of it because I'm sick and mentally deranged. It is LOUD, I mean like biblical proportions kind of loud! It sounds like a civil war cannon going off. It's just too dang much fun not to shoot.

I know that doesn't help you any, but brakes are LOUD. Not only to you the shooter, but to any bystanders or other hunters. Just be aware of that and adjust your shooting environment as best you can. Like warning other hunters to wear earplugs or something.

When I touch mine off at a large public shooting range, people from several positions over usually stop shooting and stare at me in disbelief at how loud it is.

I really enjoy it when there's some guy shooting his ultra-whizbang-super-duper-uber-magnum with brake next to me. I like to give him back some of the treatment he's giving out!

I had a screw on brake installed by T/C's custom shop and it really tamed my .308 .
I have heard of another brake by Holland guns that is superb, but have yet to try it. (It is around $ 200.00)

I have an unbraked 14" 7-30 Waters barrel for my Contender, and I don't have a problem with the recoil.  I've never shot one that was braked, but I have shot both braked and unbraked .223 Remington Super 14s.  I strongly dislike the muzzle brake as it doesn't make a significant difference in recoil (on the .223, anyway, but it doesn't kick much anyhow) and just makes the gun unbearably loud to everyone around.  I have to wear plugs and muffs to shoot my braked .223 Rem. barrel.
