Coyote down 1st time out with custom Ultra Varmint
« on: March 06, 2009, 08:16:22 AM »
Took my newly customized UV .223 out last night for it's maiden hunt. Called in a double and took this fellow at 45 yards. Got reloaded quickly but the female never stopped or hesitated once on her way out of the field. I doubt even a bolt shoot er would have had much more than a hail-mary at her.

Nice way to break in the new stock I thought.

Another great looking coyote!
Any guess on the weight of that one? He sure makes the ones down here look scrawny.

Good to hear the new modifications have worked out.

He is an avergae size male for these parts. Probably in the 40 plus lbs area.

The biggest I have seen is a beautiful 60lb male that a buddy shot. Here is a picture of it. The fellow in the pic is over 260 lbs and over 6 feet tall to give you a reference for size. Notice the nice dark back and sides with a contrasting white face. He is headed for a full body mount as it is one of the nicest coyotes we have seen in a while.

We have seen some fantastic hides recently. They are winter thick and in great shape. One of our buddies has mange going through his area. 3 out of the last 5 coyotes have been in rough shape.
