.223 Rem Twist rates?

Can you determine the rate of twist on a handi-rifle barrel in .223 Remington based on serial number? I have one of these and want to know if I need to use heavy or light bullets. It is an ejector model bull barrel. So far with 55 grain FMJ accuracy has only been ok...

No, but you can follow the instructions in the FAQs and Help sticky under the twist rate list and find out what the twist is.

I gather by my NJ serial number prefix it is a 1995 barrel. The switch to a faster 1 in 9 twist occurred in 2007, therefore I have a 1 in 12 rate of twist. What weight bullets are going to be best for this twist rate?

If you try the search for
223 1:12"
, you should get some good hits, here's one of many that I got using the search selecting just this forum from the list.
