New H&R .308
« on: February 26, 2009, 11:25:14 AM »
Hey all,

Well, it's been several months, but, as of today, I finally bought that H&R Handi .308  ;D

Sweet thing too.  As soon as I get my paycheck next week, friday, I'm getting a 3-9x40 with low profile rings, and to the Boulder City, NV, range.

I cannot wait ;D

using low profile rings may not let the hammer clear the scope bell.
medium should just clear. Dan

Congrat's on the new Handi!  The .308 was my first handi, as well. It seems to like 168 grn bullets best.  Shoot that puppy and have fun!

The use of Lo, medium or even Hi rings will depend on what brand of scope is chosen. IE Variable power Bushnell Trophys often need HI rings to clear as the power control ring is so large. But Leupold VXi, VXII's on my handis are mounted in LO PRW and Warne MAXIMA rings.

A 308Win Ultra is my first also. I've put a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5x12-40mm with med Burris zee signature rings (at Quick's suggestion). It just fits. No range report yet. I need to bore sight it and lock the rings down first. Range report and pictures to follow. -g

Well, here it is, my brand new Handi .308 with a Tasco 3-9x50 set on Weaver high rings (all I could afford, Leupold pretty soon)  as soon as I get a bore sighter (found one online at opticsplanet.net for $25.00) and get rid of this cold, will be taking it down to Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club in Boulder City, NV.  One thing at a time  ;D
