Another question for you veterans.  How do you carry your extra ammo for you handgun while hunting?  Normally I would carry speedloaders for the 357 or 44 but there is nothing like that for the 454 RB.

in an outer pocket.   this is hunting, not combat handgunnig.   if you empty your gun and dont have your target down, the time it will take you to get your ammo out and reload will give you time to think about what you did wrong and time to figure how you can correct it.

If 5-6 rounds doesn't do the job one of two things will happen:

   1. The non-dangerous game animal has already fled to the next county or,

   2. The dangerous game animal was killed by your guide and you still    have to pay for the hunt.

Just kidding

I carry spare ammo in a plastic ammo wallet. It isn't fast to reload but wasn't meant to be. It keeps the rounds clean and handy.

I use the ammo wallet also. It keeps them organized in a flat package and keeps them from klinking around in your pocket. I carry the wallet in a shirt or bib pocket.

Good luck and be safe,
Scott

Concur with MTM wallets, and use the rifle sized ones for my contender rounds.

HI   I use my ammo loops on my bandito holster and I also have a 454srh.  I always cary extra ammo with me.  Once I was attacked by a pack of coy dogs.  I emptied my pistol on them and they came back so I reloaded and shot a few more of them.  www.pistolpackaging.com  Good luck!![/code]

Unless you like green cases make sure you always pull the rounds out when you put the rig away. I didn't once and my cases are a pretty green color now.

Boy, if that doesn't sound familiar! Only way around that is nickeled cases (learned that from some of the local LEOs while I was in school). Or take 'em out of the loops, like GB says. I never have found out what the chemical is that causes that problem.

subfan:  I don't know what the rim size is on your 454, but I usually use stripper clips to carry extra rounds.  Stippers work well for 6.5 Swedes, 8mms, 7mms, 303s, and the like.  Maybe a stripper clip for the 303 Brit might hold your 454s securely.  Just thinkin'..  Mikey.

Elastic ammo loops sewn into the breast of my orange vest, and a few extras in the vest pocket.

What I use is
a uncle mikes wrist carrier  it has elastic shell loops and holds 6 rifle/  410 rounds or 12 44 mag/ 45 colt rounds ( 1 in each side of the loop)  another is made by Kolpin  and it holds 12 rifle/ 410 rounds it is a drop down type. You put it on a belt and when  needed just pull a flap and it unfolds so you can get the shells.  and the 3 rd thing i use if also from uncle mikes is the 22 shell carrier you just dump in a bunch of 22 shells and slide it on your belt

If I'm carrying my backpack the box of extra ammo is in there. If not it's in my pocket or a few extra rounds in the pocket.   Usually the hunts is over with one shot, but you always have a extra couple just in case.

even if the hunt is over with only the one shot, you should never approach a downed animal with an empty gun. so you should always have a few extra rounds handy for the reload.

The intruder turns around slowly, sees both barrels, and hears a low-deep voice say "Son, the left one's iron and the right one's steel, if the left one don't get you, the right one will"

I tried a wrist ammo holder that was velcroed together around the wrist. Then I talked my wife into altering one of those butstock ammo carriers to fit my forearm. Now I have 9 rounds ready to go in a second.
If your arm is "normal sized" you might not need any alteration.   jh

AMMO WALLET

I use a uncle mikes wallet. I use a belt holster and carry 12 rounds in the wallet. they are 6 in a row, and foleded. this keeps them from falling out. And handy when you need them.
Praise GOD, and pass the ammo!
