Do-it-yourself Bear hunts in Canada??
« on: February 13, 2009, 07:57:43 AM »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has done any “self-guided” bear hunting Canada.  I’ve hunted up there a couple years now and it’s likely that I’ll have the time to this year, but I don’t know so much about the $$.
Does Canada have open public hunting land that an American can just drive to, park, pitch a tent and then start hunting & fishing?  I've been on the back roads in Canada and I've been in places where it looks like you could pull off the road and not see anyone for a week pretty easily.
I’m not looking for anything fancy, but it would be kind of nice to get away to hunt & fish without having to spend a bunch of money to do it.
     Anyone ever done this?

Even if it was legal, not worth it unless you have a month to prepare, access to food for bait and a lot of property to hunt. Your guide will insure active baits and works the sites year round, scoutign and prepping stands (good ones at least).

A guided hunt with all food and lodge run in the 1200 - 1800 range. That is a bargain. As a reference, I have a firend who runs an elk camp in Colorado. If he takes me for free, food, lisc and gear wil run 2k and you have to work your ass off. Kick down the money and find a guide you like.
