After making my first mortar in stainless steel and because i like shooting golfballs so much i decided to make another one in bronze with an oakwood carriage.
It is made from bronze GT 12 barstock with 4" diameter.
The barrel lenght is 4,5" with again a 3/4"x1" powder chamber, total lenght is 8,5".
The trunnion bar is made from square barstock and ends are rounded on the lathe to accept the trunnion caps.
I think this is an easy way as you only have to mill a straight slot in the barrel then.
Also last week i made a 'free impression' of a dahlgren in 304 stainless with an overall lenght of 10" and drilled and reamed to 15mm.
As you can see in the photo it is not to scale or anything but this is a nice signal cannon or i can shoot cork balls with it that i found in a hobby shop somewhere.
Thanks to all who post so much information here on the forums,it helped me to make these...
