I'm grumpy this morning
« on: February 11, 2009, 05:29:24 AM »
I don't realy like it when people point other people on other boards doing stupid things.  It rubs me wrong and and just doesn't seem helpful or polite. Tell the guy face to face (on his board).  Well I encountered a stupid one over on cast bullets and followed my own advice.

I couldn't believe the guys response. I started to call the guy a liar in 2000 words or less without using the word liar. but decided against it and kept my response non confrontational.

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=45556.

Okay I have vented, I feel better.

It looks like a bomb to me. I wouldn't want to be anywhere in the neighborhood when he set it off.

Douglas,   I bet your heart-rate is back to normal by now.  You just can't save everyone, that is a fact.  And besides.....It's PROOFED!!  What more do you want?  I built a music stand pipe knee mortar when I was 14, but mine was DANGEROUS,  because it was not PROOFED!
I bet the very best method was used to create the breech on that beauty.  Two 6 penny nails through drilled holes with a poured lead plug.  He used the best quality WATER PIPE, can you really expect more??  Did I mentioned that it was PROOFED!!!   ;) ;)

T&M
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

This reminds me of a seller on ebay who had a bp cannon that used to be fired at the local foot ball games
the barrel was cast out of LEAD! He was selling it as a shooter! I emailed him and let him know he was selling
a very large grenade and this was going to be a major law suite for him if someone bought it and got hurt,
he did pull the auction..... and for several months after that someone kept reporting my auctions causing items
to be pulled, one of them a high capacity 1880's era Remington Lee 5 shot magizine, sometimes it dosn't pay to
try to help people.......

This guy on the other forum will be in the newspapers one day..... hopefully nobody else will be hurt by his expert stupidy.

Aha, that's why I was so grumpy, my knee hurt!

I just groaned and growled when I flexed my knee. My wife asked if I had taken my pain pills.  I said no and she told me if I wasn't going to take the pain pills the doctor prescribed, thenn I had to suffer silently and not disturb her.  The women is a tyrant.

DD,
Been there had that done, twice, not as complicated as your surgery, no replacement of bone or anything, but work done on the outside tendons of each knee (at different times). The pain was probably nothing compared to yours, some discomfort for a few days, but for the tendons to heal properly you have to keep the leg immobile for about 6 weeks, you talk about being in a foul mood, about the time the fifth week with that brace on rolls around, believe me, you are not feeling kindly towards the world. Let's put it this way, if it was my fifth week with the brace and I had this interaction with this ordnance expert I think I might have informed him, just for safety reasons mind you, of my thoughts on where the best place would be for him to store his rustic homemade artillery.  In all seriousness, your last post to him was the classy way to go.

I was looking through the calander photos that were linked on that site. The one titled "Marine" is interesting, you can see the primer tube in the air.  Look between the top of the left wheel and the bottom of the light pole, and just a touch to the left of the pole.

But, some people just don't like to have it pointed out that what they are doing is dangerous or stupid.  Or both.

Let's not judge to harshly. If we stop guys like this from trying to impress their buddies, we hurt the economy. Starting at the hardware store selling multiple "proofed" pipes and ending at World Craziest Videos and Cops.

...

I agree.  If you've followed over time his other postings, you will find that he's in a place with very little to use for resources.  I think that he's doing the best he can with what he has - but doesn't know about the limitations of iron pipe.

I've built almost a dozen iron pipe cannons when I was in H.S.  AND lived because I used home-made blackpowder.  Now 40-50 years later I know better.

Bringing to his attention what the limitations of the materials he's working with should suffice.

I hope his other cannons are built safely.

I think that Tim & Douglas, in their last posts, might be suggesting that this man be given a little breathing room, so he can digest the information that's been offered to him.

"Well, Thank You..." really means, I've done this before and I'm going to do it again, so..I don't want to hear it! If I read it right, I noticed this guy is signing in from Peru, if he stays there, we won't have to read about him offing himself with his "Proofed" Pipe Bomb! Hope no one else is anywhere near by! Boomlover, he's giving his location as Peru, Illinois, which really isn't that far from me, maybe 100 miles. I suppose I could offer to take him to the range, and tell him to bring whatever rifles and pistols he wants to shoot, but that he should leave his cannons at home as I'll be supplying a couple that we can fire. The trick would be to accomplish this last part diplomatically.  I'll have to ponder this for awhile.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.
