Barrel De-Resonator
« on: February 10, 2009, 04:31:39 AM »
Has anyone had experience with the barrel de-resonator made my LimbSaver.   Their claim and some testimonials advise that this device tightens groups by eliminating vibrations etc!  It looks kinda ugly on the barrel!

Search the threads as this has been discussed several times.  I think that they have had good luck.
If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning.

I just got both of these with a search for deresonator, search doesn't work well for recent threads, but for older threads it work fine.  ;)

I didn't search for deresonator, but I did one for Missouri, looking for opinions on Missouri Bullets.  I got a brazillian hits, but none of the ones I checked had the word Missouri anywhere in them.

That has been my experience more often than not.  If you know the admin and/or programmer or the right channels to get this into, pls pass this observation on.

If you get different results then I'm obviously doing something wrong and would appreciate some guidance.

Hello grom Georgia,

Although I have only one and it is not on a Handi, I will be acquiring more. The one I have was given to me by a master riflesmith to try and give him a true report. I had been shooting a Ruger M77 MKII and been getting some decent groups. After setting the deresonator just in front of the stock, the groups suddenly were HALF the size as before. Exact same ammo, conditions and technique. Hey, when 3/4 inch groups and smaller show up immediately after installing such a rediculous looking product, I feel that looks are secondary to performance. Just my limited experience with this widget but I must say that it wotked for me !!

Can someone post a picture of this ugly beast?  I've got an M77 MKII in .308, and it whacks yotes and foxes to 400 yards.  What caliber is yours.

I heard they make the groups so small that you can't even put a bullet in the hole you just shot. I think it's a gotchya. But if they make ya feel good do it. ::)Kurt

Here ya go Pete!! Its just a 2" dia X 2" long soft rubber "O" ring that absorbs barrel vibes and settles things down.

I have a couple of them. I tried it on a H&R 22LR that was pitifully inaccurate for a 22. it tightened the groups up to one hole at 50'. Neat thing was if I moved it back the groups opened right back up. This thing definitely works and works well!!!

I really should not be such a nay sayer on this gadget as I have not used one ...but I personelly have never found a bbl that could not be tamed to do what it was intended to do by handloading and working with the load .That being said it may work for rimefire and those who don't hand load . Maybe I'm just scared that it was developed by some mad scientist to mess with the harmonics of the rotation of the earth and to get us tumbling off into deep dark space in search of a planet like earth to screw up. But that's just me others may find it useful. ;D Kurt

I have talked to a few guys that have these goofy looking doughnuts on their rifles
at the range. All of them liked the results the got from using them. They look like an
abomination, but I guess they work.

Thanks CW.  It sure as s**t is ugly ::).  I'll keep it in mind as a last resort, but I'd rather tune the rifle and the load ;)

Pete even though you may be ok with a little global warming about now. I think Al Gore is way off base where global warming is coming from. You get your global warming meter out and I bet it peaks some where close to that Limbsaver lab. ;DKurt

In Fred's accurizing article he mentions bedding the fore end with Dow Great Stuff foam.  Would this not do the same in damping the resonance without having to mar the looks of a beautiful Handi with that ugly rubber plug?

If it happened to be in the correct place for the harmonics for that rifle and that load. YES it would work just as well. The thing about the donut is that it is movable. So it is better equipted to always work.

 Pete,
I agree, but sometimes top accuracy is not attainable with loads alone. So your assessment of using it as a last resort is apropos. That's the reason it is on that 22! But I do admit to purchasing a couple to "have" just in case.  ::) ;D

You can see over it to the front site ok?
Where on the barrel is the recommended location?

Don't think it would work with sights, just scoped. Recommendations are for where ever it works best, start near the forend and move it forward a little at a time and shoot, repeat until you find the sweet spot.
