.243 Range Report
« on: February 09, 2009, 03:01:03 PM »
I posted a while back that I got my wife a .243.  Well I finally got to the range with it.  Here's a pic of it with my .223.  The .243's the one on the bottom.

The only thing I've done is loc-tite the scope base.  I just wanted to see how it shot with out any tweaks.  Here's how it did:

I was shooting Federal 100gr Power Shocks at 100yds.  The group on the right were shots 13-16.  That group measures 2.7".  I made a scope adjustment and then fired the last 4 of the box as quickly as I could and got the left group.  It measures 1.25".  I think this little gun has got a lot of potential.  As a side note I did shoot it with the forearm off and there was no change in group size, so I shouldn't have to do anything to that.

Alot better than the one I had!   It didn't like anything heavy(under 75g). mine was a Bull barrel H&R, pretty gun just didn't shoot well.
Good luck with yours.

I wanted to get a 7mm-08, but with this being primarily the wife's gun, I went for the .243's lower recoil.  She's been shooting hogs with my .223.  I'm happy with it considering all the bad reports the .243 Handi gets.  I think with a little trigger work and barrel break-in, it'll be a consitent 1.5" shooter.
