golfball bore windage
« on: February 09, 2009, 04:57:26 AM »
Hi,
I liked my first mortar so much i decided too build another one in bronze with an oak sled. Today i a found piece of scrap tiger bronze gt 12 that is 4 inch dia.x10 inch long.
It is bored 5" deep 1,740 wide(44,2 mm)
This would be useful too make another mortar since i don't have to pay for it then as it is scrap.
The question is would this be too much windage for a golfball since 1,715(43,55 mm) is what i bored my stainless mortar and that works very well.
Considering the :39x40 rule this would be too wide and i want too shoot my golfballs at short ranges (30 to max.100 yards) and unpatched.
The sled is already made and i will post pics later when the mortar is completely finished.

Is it too much?  No, but less would be more efficient.
Might be a candidate for  boring to something larger ....

I know it could become something larger but i like shooting golfballs soooooo much....cheap on ammo and powder and a whole lot of fun... :D
And i like the smoke circles.....haha
I think i will give it a try as golfball size as after all it is only 25/1000th too big wich is not so very much.
I can always bore it a bit larger later.

thats exactly what I would do also .
its easier to enlarge the bore later then put in an liner .
