Is Ed still selling barrels?
« on: February 08, 2009, 04:54:08 PM »
I was looking for a new barrel. When I went on Ed's site I see it hasn't been updated since last year.  Is he still selling barrels?

Yup but getting his site update is a continuing problem for Ed. He has had quite a few different folks over the years who were going to do it for him but apparently he still hasn't gotten anyone to dependably do it for him.

I was wondering the same thing, I have e-mailed Ed numerous times, and tried calling him probably a half dozen times....I was starting to think he is a myth. I finally gave up and ordered the barrels I need elsewhere.

If you will look at Eds ad on the forum and note his open and close times and also remember he is on central time so you must allow for that you will get him. He is not in his shop all the time. as for email he does not have the time to answer them as he is very busy. He has a very large stock of contender, encore stuff as he has just bought out another dealer. keep trying you will get him.
he is great to deal with.

Ed has a full time job and does the TCs as a side line really tho he devotes a tremendous amount of time to it as well and many weekends is at gunshows selling.

I've never failed to get a call back from Ed if I left a message. I will say this if you are just asking him questions better asked here then you really shouldn't be surprised if you get no return call or e-mail from him. He truly does not have time to answer questions more appropriately asked and answered here.

If you make it clear what your business is and that you are wanting to buy or to sell to him if that's the case some TC item I suspect he'll get back with you. If your e-mail or phone message sounds like you are just wanting to chat I really doubt he will take the time. He is a busy man from the time he wakes in the morning until he goes to bed at night.

If you just wanna chat about TCs doing it here and don't waste his time so he can get his real job done and take care of the TC business for those who actually wanna buy or sell TC stuff with him.

Thanks Greybeard. I really wanted to purchase two barrels from the Gentleman, but felt it wasn`t right to have to spend his dime to answer my questions... I will certainly try again. I did not know that it wasn`t his primary job.

I've known Ed for a lot of years, and if he doesn't have it in stock, he will find it for you (desite what is on his website or mail lists).   Given a little time, he's never failed to come up with what I was looking for.   On the few occasions when I didn't reach him by calling within his scheduled call hours, he always returned my call when he could.   Might be up to a few days later, but he always got back to me.   So I obviously leave messages he wants to reply to.   Did you?

As Bill said, this man is spread very thin and no longer has time for chit-chat calls or email.   There are folks here at GBO that have nearly as much savy about TC's as Ed does, so ask your questions here and leave contacting Ed mostly for buying or selling.   Will sure help him out, and those wanting to buy or sell from Ed.

One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

The time or two I have met Ed, he seemed to be a pretty quiet dude.  Not like he was really rude or anything but just didn't have much to say.  Get down to business and get on with it.  Maybe you got to get to know him better.  I'm really glad I don't live in OKC area though.  I know I'd spend WAY too much money in his store.  It's a small place tucked away on a small street in Bethany, OK.  Right next to a pawn shop...  Cluttered but FULL of stuff.  I just know that if he'd leave me alone for an hour or two I'd find a whole bunch of stuff that I really NEED!  I just really wish he could find a way to keep his stock updated on-line.  I don't mind calling a couple of times to catch him.  I also (despite my attempt to catch him at his shop last week) realize that it's a side-line for him and he makes a living as a CPA.  March and April just aren't good times for him.  You don't HAVE to deal with him.  I buy stuff from whoever has a deal that I want at the time.  But if I have a T/C need I at least try to get in touch with him first.  As a fellow Okie (though the AF has kept me out of state for 22 years now) I feel it is my duty to deal with him before taking my money to heathen outsiders... (no offense, just kiddin').

I talked with him yesterday on the phone looking for a few barrels.

I emailed Ed an offer to accept his website advertised price (from last year). So far no response.

I'll add here that I've bought two NIB AA barrels from Ed over time, and he's always been available. Those barrels were exactly what I was looking for.
My only disappointment is that his web site isn't updated very often, but he's a good guy to deal with.
Beating up a guy for his "casual" customer service is kind of silly when you realize it's just a hobby to him and he makes his living actually working a "real" job.

The thing about his web site is; if he could find a way (or someone) to keep it up to date with his barrels on hand, then he'd probably save some time with inquiries.
That would be nice, but still, it's just a hobby for him.

I wish he would have posted that TC stuff is not a full time business. I could have saved my time.
