What is the most accurate hollow point hunting round you have used in your CZ 452?

I use the bulk pack 36 grain JP by remington.
I also was playing around with the CCI 40 grain subsonic HP that worked well.  but i was shooting them with open sights and at 50 meters at the range in my old back yard.
But anything I get as good results out of my 452 Lux may differ depending on what model you have.
I can shoot CB's out of my rifle but the Super aguilla rounds get stuck under my front sight.  My old neighbor had a 16" american that would shoot those things all day and his 28" Brono was so quiet with standard ammo he never tried any of the quiet stuff in it in the back yard.

The super Aguila rounds..is that the super colibri? I haven't tried colibris in the CZ, since I have more or less limited them to 20" and under barrels. Glad you warned me..now I sure won't try them in the CZ.

Mine has a 24" barrel and they (Colibri) stick at the 22.5" mark of the barrel.
By the way CB longs are just as quiet.  hit harder and will feed from the mag.
What i think your best bet is to get a box of every kind of HP you are thinking of using and head to the range for some tests.
Take some baking potatos with you.  At 25 yards or less they explode when center punched.

I have also found that a long barrel (e.g. 24") does bring the sound of a CB down to near what colibri level is from a 16" barrel..

Without question, my 452FS loves Eley subsonic HP's. It's my hunting round for sure. Second to that is CCI and Winchester Subsonic HP's. It also really likes Wolf MT, and for a budget choice, Federal 510's.

See there is proof that no matter what you stoke into a CZ 452, reguardless of model it will shoot.

Have to agree with that Mcwood. I mostly hunt woodchucks (groundhogs) with my 452 Special. I will be trying many types, but will likely use subsonics for close-in work and perhaps CCI Mini-Mags for longer range stuff.

WINCHESTER POWER POINT, A FULL 40 GRAIN BULLET AT 1280 FPS THAT PUNCHES NICE LITTLE CLOVERLEAFS AT 50 YARDS.  I'VE USED THEM IN THE 452-E AND THE 452 AMERICAN.

Those colibri rounds will get stuck in shorter barrels than that also.
They are about useless. I have a crossman 2240 Co2 pistol
that throws a heavy pellet faster and is more accurate.
Why those colibri things are still made is a mystery.
A gimmick round if ever there was one. A 20 grain bullet at
about 415 fps...Geez.. Shoot a pine tree and you can about dig the
bullet out with your finger nail! that is if it don't bounce off. And yep,
I got suckered too , I still have about a full 500 rd brick of them.
A Red Ryder bb gun would have been a wiser purchase on my part.

Don't know if it will make much difference, but the Super Colibri now hits 575 fps...might make it out your barrel now.. ;)

i like the little Colibri Bullets.  But out of my Ruger Bisley.  Never has a more perfect vermin round been made.  about a loud as a hand clap accurate and hits hard enough to kill mice, rats, and snakes at short distance.
I had a problem with mice crawling into the garage in one house I lived in and these were perfect.  I first tried a BB gun but the steel BB would bounce all over the place after going through the mouse.

CCI Mini-Mag hollow points seemed to shoot pretty well in my CZ453.  But each rifle is "different".

Buy a 100 Pak and see if your CZ452 likes 'em.    :)

WOW, that seems fast. Where did you see the vel posted?

I only say that as I have shot some of my RWS R25 comp 22short pistol ammo and that is running 525fps with a 29Gr bullet.....

My CZ is the long barreled model and really likes most ammo I have shot in it.  I believe the CCI SGB or CCI subsonics shot best. But I'd have to check to be sure. We had a post here @ GBO recently about your most accurate rimfire ammo and gun. GOOD READ!!

I looked at the super colibre rounds and found that the CB's were just as quiet and hit with a lot more authority as well as were a lot more accurate out of the long gun for the back yard.  Oh yea the CB's feed all 5 from the mag.  I think the Colibre rounds only 3 would work out of the mags.  But they do real well out of my Browning pistol with the 10" barrel.

Of course, the CBs are much better for close-in shooting ..more accurate, has more authority and one does not have to compensate near so much for drop.
Never tried either in a handgun, but expect there would be some noise difference in a short barrel.

I found an old beat to crap Western Auto (Springfield No 5) and took it apart painted all the metal flat black and the wood olive green with a 2X BSA pistol scope mounted on the barrel like a scout scope.  and sighted it in with CB longs.  Great little gun.  We knick named it CDG (Click Ding Giggle)  When I would take it out to the range others would try it and all you would hear is the click of the striker, the ding of it CB hitting a gong, and everyone who shot it would pick thier head off of the gun look at it and giggle, then ask to shoot it again.
Works real well to keep rabbits, moles, ground squirrels, and rattle snakes out of the garden / yard.

I own 7-22LR rifles 2-22mag and a 17HMR and by far my favorite of the group to shoot is the CZ-452 LUX with the open sights.  It feels like a real big game rifle.  I whole heartedly believe it when Capstick wrote about a back yard safari and sitting out over bait till a rat came out and he shot it.  I do that.  Rabbits become antelope, rats are lepards waiting from a blind for them to come to the bait,
Not sure what the Ghophers are but waiting for them to pop up out of their hole to fix it is more like turkey hunting.  You need to be real still and hide and wait, and wait. And.  Click...... Shot to the head.  Guess you could look at it as Hippo hunting if you want to go with the whole African Safari theme.  Calling in Coyote that have been eating all the neighborhood cats and the liltle lap dogs could be like Lion hunting.  Use one of the rabbits as bait.
Oh yea if you want to get rid of rabbits with out firing a shot.  get a rabbit call.  a couple blows on it and all the rabbits are two counties away.

I would recomend buying a Neal Waltz .22 lr die.  It resizes the round to .225 consistantly and it comes with a two bullet reforming dies.  One is a wad cutter the other is a hollow point.  The hollow point makes marginal performing hollow point rounds into consistant .43 to .45 expanding hunting machines.  The final bullet form is a round point, and must be ordered separately.

The dies really help rounds to perform more consitantly.

I paid 140 for mine delivered, and have it installed on a dedicated RCBS Partner.

Personally, I have sworn off the bulk crap from the department stores. I have seen some pretty badly leaded barrels from shooting large amounts of it. If you will take some advice, try some "better" fodder and I'll bet you will be rewarded with some smaller groups..

When I took it to the range the first time I had 5 or 6 kinds of ammo rem target was about the best quality that i had..but the blazer's shot as well as anything. However it hasnt had over 250 rounds through it so it hasent even been shot in yet..But it will be. Drop

I shoot in bulls-eye pistol competition. So i go thru allot of 22's. I have also found rem target to be quite accurate. Too many miss fires for my use in competitions, but its accurate. I use CCI 032 or 035 (Target rounds) for practice and RWS rifle match for competitions. In my short I recently switched to the CCI short target as the price of RWS R25 is far too rich for my blood. It cost me over 300 bucks for a fire control so I could shoot it. But at $40 a brick for CCI compared to almost $80-90 for the R25 its easy to see the savings.
With my 22 rifles I have a couple that like different loads. My marlin LOVES Rem Cyclone. so much so when I found the load, I returned to that store and bought every box on that lott number. (About half a case IIRC) My CZ shoots most quite well. IIRC the RWS subsonic and CCI SGB are my go to loads. My bull barreled 10/22's loved REM Golden's. My Savage 24 shoots CCI CB longs great even with the TINY open sites!!!

Hey ironglow;  I have a 1992 production of CZ,  a BRNO 452 Model 2E.   It has a real tight chamber, so the CCI's won't chamber without extreme effort.   Other than that they are accurate.   A few brands do stand out, such as Eley, RWS, and Winchester.   As of right now I'm using RWS Subsonic's with the hollow point.

I have a 452 with the 28" bbl.  And very quiet with that bbl lol.

So far mine loves the Federal American Eagle hollowpoints.

It also shoots the Aguila rounds really well.

The RWS is probably quite good but a bit rich for me and I don't know where I would find them locally. I like Aguila subs and used to get them as PMC Moderators.
