TC Rifle Question
« on: August 28, 2003, 05:29:13 AM »
What type of groups can/should one expect from one of these factory stock in say 243 or 25-06 at 100yards ? Using a 3-9 power or better high quality scope.

Thanks

I have not had these particular calibers, but from my experience with most other Thompson barrels the accuracy should be outstanding.  You might get one that has problems, but typically all I have had would at least shoot moa.

I have heard good things about the factory t/c barrels but I have had bad luck with a couple of them. I had a 300 win mag that wouldn't shoot worth a penny and I also had a 45 cal. mzl barrel that wouldn't shoot either. So I am kind of leary about their factory barrels.

If you still have them, send em back to Thompson.  So far I have had excellent service with them.

To get tight groups with Encore
« Reply #4 on: September 04, 2003, 05:11:12 PM »
You will have to do do alot of goofy things. Free float the front handguard, learn how to benchrest it properly, don't use a Harris bi-pod and many other tips you can find on this forum. Mounting a scope can be a chore with the factory designed mounting holes. If you want an off-the -shelf tack driver there are more cost effective guns. If you want the flexability of changing barrels and like to tinker the Encore is OK.

I get sub MOA groups with my 26" 25-06 heavy barrel.  I have not worked on the forend, the trigger or done any of the other vodoo tricks that are oftentimes stated as a must.  Matter of fact I have not done this with either of my Encore barrels or my 9 Contender barrels.  I must be the most lucky T/C owner out there.

Do however agree that mounting a scope on a Encore stinks because of that taper on the back of the barrel.

Defining a quality product

To be a quality manufacturer in the modern era, you  should have no more defectives than 3.5 in a million units. It is obvious that T/C doesn't abide by this philosophy from the  many posts on this forum of people sending back barrels, having difficulty mounting scopes etc. I guess my point for the fellow is this: if you want guranteed performance right out of the box, and Encore is not the best option, there are many better options for the money. If he wants to be able to switch barrels, the risk of a problem may be acceptible.

I am only sorry i didnt get my Encore sooner.

WOW , What a gun!!!!!!! Versatile,Accurate,Dependable! I have purchased two more barrels for it and they shoot great!

The Bases and Rings mounted flawlessly.Easy to break down.Easy to clean.Easy to use.

There are problems and defects with EVERY brand of gun made.Just because you dont hear others talk about them on an open forum doesnt mean they dont exsist.

I've had my Encore for five years and am very happy with it. It's all I carry to hunt deer and coyotes with.
