S&W M63 Stainless 4"

I have an S&W M63 Stainless 4" 22 cal. with Pachmyer grips. It has a pinned barrel and has a second pin in the frame just below the rear sight. This revolver is in Very Good condition. My gunsmith installed a new spring set which lightened the trigger pull. The serial number is 43xxx and the M 63 has no extension number. I would like to determine its value.

I just traded for a 4" 63 like that but it had a set of custom "pocket worn" polished stag grip panels and the dealer here in West Tennessee said he just turned down $450 cash for the gun.....it was hardly shot......the cly didn't have a ring from the cly lock dragging BUT it had some endshake that seemed to be lax factory fitting that was easily fixed....this was just before the new reissue of the 5" 63 and when I saw the dealer again he said he let the 63 I got "way too cheap" according to new list price of the reissue Mod 63.$766.00.....this is the only one that I have seen for sale lately and they aren't too common for sale..they seem to be kept by buyers ...hth..good luck and good shooting!!

For sure, you've got a keeper! I've seen these go for $500 and over? Depending on geographical location. They are an excellent shooter and very lite to carry in a pocket or perhaps a holster. Great companion while fishing or timber tramping. I love mine! I've posted this before but, here's mine again.

I've been looking at the old M63 when they come up on a couple of auction sites.  They seem to sell between 400 and 500 maybe a little more.  The ones going for more than 600 don't seem to be selling so much.   I wouldn't value the price of the old M63 based on the price of the new M63.  They are both .22 but IMO not the same revolver.  I would very much like to buy an old M63 locally when one becomes available and I have the money too!

I have the old m63 with the pinned barrel.the barrel pointsw right as it exits the frame,so much so that the rear sight is cranked way left...my m60-4, brand new from the factory, had a barrel that pointed wayyyy left as it came out the frame. NO MORE S@W JUNK FER ME!

I had a Mod 63 Kit for a lot of years and it gave me excellent service the whole time... never missed a beat.   Mine wore custom stag grips, was tuned/trued and had a trigger job.   Put a lot of meat in the camp cook pot with it, idled away a lot of carefree hours plinking with it.   I also had both a Ruger Bearcat and Super Bearcat, both of them the old models, and just liked them better I guess.   They must have fit me better because I could hit anything with them even without the adjustable sights of the 63.   Sold the 63 and the Bearcat, still have the Super Bearcat.   Factory original except for the custom David Wayland Koa grips.

These great little packing guns are going for a premium price around here. Last couple of gun shows that I was at these S&W 63's were going for $ 600 & up. WOW!!! :o
I've got an older S&W 63 ( no dash ) Kit Gun 4", no barrel pin. It is a great packing gun. Very, very accurate. It has put down alot of small game over the years.
The Grandkids love shooting this little gun with these small factory grips. I put on a larger pair of Pachmayr grip when I shoot it. I put in a lighter spring and polished down trigger & hammer surfaces. Now it's smooth as glass.
I came by my S&W 63 used 25+ years ago from an old friend of mine. He bought it new and just couldn't get the hang of handgun shooting and wanted a shotgun to hunt turkeys with. I had a plain Winchester 1200 pump that I didn't use. So we traded even. He was happy with the trade & I felt a little guilty. So I through in 5 boxes of shotgun shells to releive my guilt.

And S.B. I like your setup. Looks Great.

Those J frame S&W 22s are great little packin guns. I carried a model 34 for years. It's the blued model of the 63. Regards,

Ever want to just kick yourself?? I have!! A few years ago I found S&W just like the M63 4'' only in .22mag,(don't know the model). It was in a pawn shop and was in perfect condition. I could have had it for 200.00. The guy WANTED to sell it to me for that. I'm trying to remember why I didn't buy it, but can't think of a good reason right now. Had factory grips and all. When I think of all the "investment" guns I have passed on over the years for one reason or another, it makes me want to get a mental evaluation. Somebody kick me!!

Saddlebum, the reason i usually pass on those good deals is because of lack of funds at that moment.   ;D  If I have the money I'll buy the deals.

After lusting for years over a S&W 63, when the opportunity to buy one materialized, they placed a S&W 651 next to it.
Guess which one that I ended up with?  ::) :D

Suspense killing me too so I searched one. Guns America had this one but the sale was closed. It is the .22mag. It was selling for 575.00. SOMEBODY KICK ME !!!! Nothing like pouring salt in an old wound. Like pastorp I pass up deals because of lack of cash. I think this time I was just trying to be frugal and not buy something I didn't need. I sure could use that extra 375.00 I could have got for turning that M651. I could have pawned something else to get the 651 if I needed to. Okay, time to consider that mental evaluation again !!!

Yep........that's the gun I bought instead of the model 63. Never regretted it either.  8)

I just bought a new model 63 (8 shot)last friday for $729, I didn't really want to spend that much for a 22 revolver since I already had a buckmark, taurus 94, Taurus 991, 22/45 and single six.

I am not regretting it now, in 2 days I've put about 500 rounds through it and it keeps them under 2" off a rest at 30 yards. I will be ordering a k22/617 as soon as I can.

I was walking through the hunt club yesterday, and saw some crows in the corn field about 50 yards out, I killed 3 within 30 min or so and only shot 5 times. VERY HAPPY WITH IT<

You got within 50 yards of crows and they did not fly off?  You got to shoot three times  before they left?

Thats not my experiance with hunting or shooting a pistol for that matter!

I picked up a M63 a few years ago because it was cute and SS, whatever.

I prefer the Woodsman myself.

Hey Savage - Just walked right out in the middle of them all and blasted away..Hmmmmmm?

Ofcourse they flew off.....Like I said over about 30 min or so I shot 5 times and killed 3, sitting in the woodline on the edge of the field. They kept comming back to the corn that was just disced under, we also use a tape recording of crows in disress and shoot them with shotguns, but thats another story.
