H&R Medallion series rifles
« on: February 04, 2009, 10:41:54 AM »
I was in my local Gun Shop this PM and in his display he had several H&R's.  A few were (believe it or not) 1999 modles.

What caught my eye was that their were several that had a medallion for a/some (forgot)  "Whitetail" Foundation 'inset' in the stock.   ;D ;D The 'Pallet-Wood' stock actually looked like maybe a "select Pallet" (without the forklift marks ;D)  all in all a VERY nice looking rifle.

The rifle was in 45-70.  There was also a "composit" material (black in colour) stocked one with a "Whitetail" medallion inset in the stock.  Really nice rifles.

My question is:.....How many different types of these were ever made?  I had never seen one before frankly.  Anyway, thanks.  Jim

I have them in Whitetails Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, National Wild Turkey Federation and a H&R Special Edition all with Medallions in the stocks. I have not seen one with "Tupperware" stocks have the medallion but that don't mean it ain't out there...might it of been painted wood? Kurt

H&R made the Whitetail Limited 45-70 with checkered walnut stock set at one time, there have been a couple in the Classifieds over the years. They've made lots with the medallion in the stock, I have two or three of them, one as a complete rifle being the RMEF 35 Whelen, the rest just the stock sets. Most are laminated without checkering, but some are checkered too. H&R has made many different stocks over the years, most are fairly common, some are on the rare side, I have a checkered curly maple set with no medallion that I've only seen one other one here. Spend some time browsing the 7 pages of the Let's see some Handis thread in the FAQs if you want to see some nice stocks that H&R has made in the last 20yrs or so.  ;)

Kurt:  I'm pretty sure it was some form of "Plas-Tique"  :D.....MAN it was VERY light :o :o :o!!!   I would hate like hell to shoot more than once per day with it, especially in 45-70. ;D
