Who has a handi in 280?

I have really been wanting a 7x57 but I just have not found one. I have a 7-08 in a bolt gun so my next choice in a Handi was a 280. I went ahead and put a deposit down the other day and it should be here next week. I would love to know who has one and what they think of there's. I am thinking of shooting 150 gr partitions, if i can find a load that the rifle likes.. Has any shot these and if so, how did they shoot for you?

I got two but as yet have not worked with them much.
So far the one I have sighted in seems to like the Hornady Light Mag 139gr sst moly.
Getting about 1" to 1.25" three shot groups at a 100.
I think it will do better with a little tinkering.
I also have a 7-08, havn't done anything with it yet.
Now my 7x57-or should I say my youngest sons 7x57 is another story.
With factory 140gr Rem it is cutting three at .5" to .75" at 100 and he put two in the freezer this season with it.
Got a lot of shooting to do once the weather breaks.
It's going to be a lot of fun this year!
So many calibers to try.

I've got my neighbor's .280 sitting here waiting to be checked out.  He says it won't group.  Soooo, when the snow goes out, we'll do the FAQs.  I think it's something simple.  The 280s usually shoot well.

Those are some pretty nice groups Quick.  You should try the 140 Bergers, you could get meaningful velocity from the 280 imp, and have yourself a potent mid range (1-600 yards) gun that should get a boost on the ballistic charts from the extra BC.

Yes he is.
I am not a big fan of Rem ammo but both of his shots were around 150 to 180yds with both dropping in their tracks.
You can't ask for any better than that!
BTY he is only 12!

I have one I built from components bought here, along with a camo thumb hole stock from Boyds.  It will group the Federal Fusion 140 grn under an inch.  I haven't tried any hand loads yet.  I have killed four bucks with it since December 15th when I got everything together.  It is also very pleasant to shoot.  Needless to say, I am very happy with it and would recommend it highly.

I have 2, one with a shortened barrel for thick woods hunting. I have only shot 140 grain bullets out of them because the shoot them GREAT. Hnadi's in .280 have always had the reputation of shooting very accurately. And with the .284 bullets that they use  (7mm) the choice of bullets is amazing. You can shoot squirrels to Elephants with what is available. They are great, get one, you will not be disappointed. I do however still like my 7x57 Handi. In fact my 7x57 and .280 Remington Handis shoot so well I have had my eyes open for a 7-08 barrel....<><....:)

I picked one up on here last year. My bad.. I haven't shot it yet... I actually haven't even loaded for it yet!!! :o :o :o

 BUT, I'm working on it!!  ;) :D ;D ;)  I tumbled a pile of 280 brass yesterday for loading today!!! I have a couple bullet and powder combos in mind.

 As a kid I wanted two rifles. A Marlin 336 in 35Rem and a 700 Rem in 280 Remington. Its a great feeling, fulfilling childhood dreams!!  I still have a couple 336s in 35 rem. But the 700 is long gone!!!  :'(  Now the Handi is here to fill the void.  ;D
 I really liked the 150gr Nosler BT and the 160gr HPBT Sierra bullets. Then in the late '80s I picked up a Ruger 7mm/08 and discovered the 154gr Hornady RN. That rifle and bullet pretty much took over as my #1 deer rifle. That pretty much put an end to the 280/700 for me. I missed having one so with in a couple weeks one turned up here for the right price and I grabbed it.

You will also like it, grab one when you find it!!  ;D

I haven't shot anything other than 139gr SST's or 140gr Sierra GK's in mine but, with either bullet I was able to shoot a 5 shot group @100yds you could cover with a quarter. It is my favorite rifle. I reload for it and haven't shot any factory rounds through it for a long time. I do remember that it would only get OK groups using factory ammo. in my opinion, the .280 is one of the best calibers and most under rated caliber for any north American game animal.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I am looking at the 150's because my 7/08 is shooting 139grainers and my 7 mag is shooting 160 grainers, so i was hoping to split the difference. I recently found someone that needed my stw more than I did and I have some 150's that I was given to try in it. I never loaded them because I was more than happy with what i was shooting out of it at the time. In the end, i will let the riffle tell me what she wants to shoot.

I had to pull out all the tricks to get mine to shot and it is not the gun i thought it would be. It hates Hornady ammo it will shot junky Rem. cor-loks decent but not good enough. But it loves 140 grn Fed fousions under 1 inch @100 yds. I absolutly do not believe in trading or selling guns so i will keep it

Bought mine back in 2000 along with $120 worth of ammo; a box of everything I could find.  The trigger was HEAVY, but it shot extemely well.  I don't remember a load that wouldn't stay under 1.5", three shot group.  One thing I noticed was how a shot with a clean barrel changed the point of impact by nearly 6" @ 100yds.  Second shot was about 2" off, but after that she shot nice and tight.  Hornady Light Mags always shot under 1".  Think you will be happy with your choice.
