I did some loading...
« on: January 27, 2009, 09:20:20 AM »
I was busy at the bench today!! Took it slow and easy.

I loaded up 15 500's with three diff bullets five shells each. All with IMR4227 powder. I don't know how.. but I don't seem to have tried this powder in the 500... 5 with the new Hornady FTX 300's. Five with the Barnes PBA 375's and the last five with Remington's 385HP's.

On to the maxi.  ;D ;D Prepped up 50 cases. All re-sized, primed and ready for powder. This time RL7 got the nod. Started with 23Gr's and loaded five, three times upping the powder by .5Gr's each five bullets. I used this powder long ago with the 158 and 180's but not with the 200... Its from a couple manuals. Top load was just over 25. But even 24 was very compressed. I know it works well compressed as my 375Win loves this powder and that is heavily compressed with the 220Gr bullet. I don't think I'll be going more with this powder.

Doc OK'd me for stairs and LITE exercise. So I spent the AM at the bench!! Tired now, gotta relax the rest of the day. but I feel better everyday!!

I'll have to double ck on the powder, but it has been the 440Gr. WFGC Bullet Tim turned me on to from Ranger Rick.

I really wanted a load for the 500XTP bullet. But wasn't able to find a powder that was acceptable.

I like the Rem bullet (and its cost!!) but have only loaded a couple loads so far. I was checking my reloading log and couldn't believe i had never tried the 4227 powders!!! Maybe that is the missing piece in my accuracy puzzle. ::)

CW, for those .357 maximum loads what ammo boxes do you use, and who would have them that fit that cartridge?

I've been using empty 20 round Remington .223, but is there a better choice?

I don't know what CW uses, but I have found that a #4 Frankfort Arsenal box is about perfect.

If your asking about the plastic case, cowboy hit the nail on the head. That is the one I use as well.

If your asking about the loading block, I made them up myself years ago.  ;D

Hey CW glad to hear that you're feeling good enough to load some ammo!
I bet you really enjoyed yourself being able to make up some test loads, just take it easy and don't over do it.

I really admire your reloading components! ;)

GOOD SHOOTING!

CW - You have just got to keep tinkering don't you. I thought you had a load for the 357 Max using Speer 180's and AA1680 powder. They are accurate and bullet performance is up to your standards. Do you really think you are going to do better? ::) I know the scenario, I do the same thing. I get a perfectly good load and then I start to thinking I can do better some how. Good Luck to you and a speedy recovery.

That's the one I looked at also, just wanted to make sure it would work before I ordered some of those.

I don't load but three types of cartridges right now, and it looks a little strange when I carry them to the range in a ziplock bag! ;D

Thanks, Jimbo

I use the MTM RS100 boxes for my max loads.  Works well even with the 210 grain RCBS 35 Rem cast bullet.  I have a couple of pieces of carpet padding in the lid.  When the cases are empty, it fluffs up enough to keep them from coming out and free floating in the box.

Thanks very much guys. Its much appreciated!!  ;D ;D

 I have been keeping busy down there. So far I have loaded 25-20, 357Maxi, 44Mag, 45Colt, 280 Rem, 30-30, 8mm, 30-06 and 35Whelen.

I also went thru 10 5 Gal plastic buckets of mixed range brass. They where from 1/4 to 3/4 filled and stacked in the corner for YEARS!!! Tumbled about half and sorted it all into pretzel barrels I have been collecting. (You know the two gal clear plastic "barrels") They are the catz azz for brass containers!!  :D :D

This week end, two of my buddies are coming over and we are going to make up three more little shelving units for additional Die and Bullet storage. (Just 1x6 Pine boards with 1/4" plywood paneling as a backer.) Right now I have three stacks of dies and a large pile of bullet boxes on the back of the bench and its quickly eating up valueable real estate on the bench top!!  ::) :o ::)

The room is finally shaping up!!!
