Back in the handi game ...

... with a plastic stocked .45-70.
It shoots Remington factory 300s and 405s quite well, but I'll have to handload it to shoot it often. I'll be perusing the archives for load threads and faqs.

Try sticking 24 to 36 oz. of shot in a sock in stuffing it in the stock. It will really dampen recoil. The Hornady Leverevolution, my .45-70 and I get along real well.
Good luck, you'll like it.

My Buffalo Classic did well with the 405 factory loads, but it really shines with 405 gr Cast Peformance WFPGC bullets and Varget. Starting load is 40 grains, max is published at 50 grains.

I got a plain one in 45-70 and shoot factory Winchester 300 gn. It doesn't kick at all ! I got it to hunt deer in Mississippi. No one who has shot it has complained about recoil. It's so accurate I sight it in and forget it. It is the same every time I shoot it. A 3" zero at 100 yds puts me dead on at 167 yds. I would love to shoot it more but the cost of ammo is high and I'm not going to sink a lot of money into reloading stuff for it. Every time I shoot it it gives me lots of confidence the bullet will hit where I want.

Recoil really is not an issue with the plastic stocks. The Monte Carlo styles buttstocks on '06s and such can give a cheek slap. I like the drop with the plastic stock. Fits me like a custom. I am gonna go for a peep and appropriate front sight. Other than that. I'm leaving it alone.

Limbsaver makes a nice recoil pad for the synthetic stock too if the recoil is a bit uncomfortable.
