How are you guys switching barrels?
« on: January 26, 2009, 04:33:22 AM »

I am new to the handi rifle, but I have noticed that the some of you are swapping or trading or buying barrels for your handi rifles from each other and not the factory.  How does that work when NEF says that new barrels must be fitted by the factory?  Im just curious as to how you guys are doing this.  Shouldnt there be like fitting or headspace problems if the barrels are not fitted by the factory?  Any info would be helpful.

There is a large section of The FAQ the cover this and just about anything else you can think of concerning Handies. Give it a once thru its a good read. 8)

I looked throught the FAQ, but only found links to the barrel exchange program, order forms, etc.  Can anyone be a little more specific about how one barrel will fit another reciever if not fitted by the factory?

Use control F to search the FAQs page for Barrel Fitting.

I was concerned about fitting too.  i just bought a 270 barrel here on the forums and got it this weekend.

Got it ready to put on the frame, said a little prayer, and...

closed and locked as well as my factory barrel.  from what guys have said on here it is more common that they fit than they need to be fitted.

I've done three all were easy!

I have done three so far, and all any of them required was honing of the latch shelf to obtain good solid engagement.  I got brave enough to order a .270 Ultra Comp barrel for the wife and then pick up all the other parts to build it out.  I'm hoping this one goes as well as the others - otherwise I am in trouble with you know who :)

I am not an Owner (no longer) but I too have wondered this
WHAT does the Factory Do ? ? ? to fit your Barrel
That you could not do your Self
also a FYI
I recently had in my possession a 223, #2 20 gage barrels and 2 frames of the 2 frames one was shotgun and the other was *"bi sexual"
But the Shotgun Frame did accept both the 223 and the 2 twenty ga. barrels
No I didn't try the fools game in fact I sold the 223 plus frame and one 20 ga. barrel
but due to coming over here (GBO/NEF) I am getting a little tingle and that most likely means I'll be getting a frame that will host Center-fire a *Bisexual frame
I will continue to read the do's and don'ts and Yeahs and Nae's of NEF ownership and reliability
before I buy ,I currently own Encore and contender and am happy, but ...........

* bisexual = either one  lol
