how do you know if the dealer is worthy of you buying from them? is it like buying a car,haggle for the best price?

I don't know if it's still true but by me they sold so many they didn't have to haggle. You paid the price on the bike or they waited for someone else to walk in the door and buy it. Maybe nowadays that isn't so true.

I would look on the net for reviews if you can find them. I have a dealer by me that has pretty decent prices, especially on used bikes but the service dept is really terrible.

when i got my glide new in 97 they just laughed at yu if yu tried to haggle. i couldnt even git a t shirt. course then the new ones was cheaper than the used ones.my self id look at the used market and git one cheep sum fool bought and couldnt pay for.what model yu in the market for???

+1 on that.  i say used is the way to go.  let some other fool take the hit.  you can always find a deal, and with the economy being what it is,  if you have money now you can score some incredible deals.  craigslist in a big city near you.  if you are able to travel a little to pick it up, you are set.

In 2004 when I bought my Geezer Glider I tried 4 different states all were the same cost to the dollar. Times are different now maybe they will deal! I would 2nd buying used as there are allot of wanna be bikers that put out allot of money with add ons. Then couple years later bike might have 1000 miles on it and they are bored and sale. Couple Bro's picked up some nice rides for thousands less than new but are basically new one had 1200 miles the other had 3200 miles.

GRIMJIM, Do you ever make it to the Libertyville dealership in your area? it is due north of Wheaton and perhaps in the loop but not as far as Wrigley field. The guy that I bought from had purchased a used fatboy for his wife up there. He was telling me that if I made it up there, be prepared to buy a Bike!

I had rode to Wheaton to the SA Gunleather shop (got a nice belt to go with my gunshow holster) and figured that I was 29miles due west of Navy Pierre. Incredibly, I had taken the two lane highways all the way up there and the map says that I could continue on up to that Libertyville dealership from there but I don't know if that route will take me through the narrow streets of heavy residential. I am (or was) after a 3yr old electra-glide which has evolved a couple times (in name) since then but is now known as a Street Glide. Might also be some great deals on an Ultra but one may still have to pay more for the Ultra Classic.

I didn't know if you knew it or not but S.B. is a biker also. We had planned a couple of closer rides to Plainsfield which is south of Wheaton on route 33 with the intent to visit the Mega-Sports and a couple of other gunshops in that area. We did not make it because I was just too sick with the Chemotherapy last summer. Is this close to Cisero (spelling) and your neighborhood?...if so, we could possibly meet at a location this summer?

I just get on the net & find the cheapest price.  I rarely buy local.  I saved over $1000.00 on my current ride by going up to Dothan, AL to get it.

My ridin buddy and I have picked up 3 Harleys in the past 2 years, finding them on the internet with low miles, loaded with goodies and deep discounts.

..and for milage, i say anything 1-5 years old with 10000 or under is barely got the shine worn off.  i would avoid bikes over 20000, as there are too many deals on bikes with less than 10000.
    i bought one bike new, and it is highly unlikely i will ever make that mistake again.   if you know anyone near you that knows bikes, enlist their help.   hell, if you anywhere near me, i can help you.  come to think of it, p.m. me with your location and i will find some deals and send you links.   we can save you thousands!

Never been to that one. I live a couple of mile from Illinois harley. Their service isn't so great but they have pretty decent prices on used bikes. I usually take mine in to wildfire.

I try to stay away from megasports. That little shop down the road from them closed down.
I would be up for a ride though.
Maybe in a couple of months.

My advice is to know what you want before you walk into the dealership. Are you looking for a bike to customize or are you going to buy a bike you are just going to ride. If you like the lowrider, you can buy the super glide and put on 3400 dollars of the goodies on it that you want for the same price and have a bike that doesn't look like it just came out of the dealership. If you want a fatboy, then you will have to buck up and pay, they don't have a cheaper model with the fat front tire. I have to admit though i'm partial to the superglide (mine is a 98), good ride on the freeway and the shorter rake (sportster front end) makes it feel a lot lighter in the turns than it is. As others here have said look at used ones too, best time to buy is now. I got mine two years old for half of list price!! If you like fatboys you have to check out www.exilecycles.com.

the fatbob and especially the lowrider are bikes you can get INCREDIBLE deals on if you look a little.  the fatboys are in high demand, so they command a solid price.  still, they can be had at times for a decent price if you are patient.  let me know when you are ready and i will start posting hotlinks.

Hey, I just sold you my SP-101 9mm. He buys dozzens at a time and they varry betwen trade-in's and rentals. I bought my Softail Heritage for $14,000 and it had 4,000 miles on it. It came with $2,000 worth of accessories like grips, pegs, floor boards, intake, pipes, etc. Watch his inventory and set up a day to visit. You won't be disappointed.
