which CZ to get first
« on: January 24, 2009, 07:06:09 PM »
hi all looking for some help with this. I am looking at getting  the CZ 52 and the CZ 82. I know the standard answer would be to get both but am on limited funding and want to get some ammo as well so which would be better for first CZ pistol also been looking at other guns like a shotgun and revolvers for hunting and a rifle and want to use my C&R so any thoughts would be apprecited. i do have an idea what i am going to do about a shotgun and looking at milsurp rifles. i am trying to keep the purchase under $250 for gun, shipping, and ammo so the CZ's should fit.

So as I read it, you want to keep it under $250.  That would limit you pretty much to the 52 right now.  I see their going up in price from what I paid about a year and a half ago.  You could get the 82 but I think you'd be pushing your limit after you figure in the cost of the ammo and such.  It would be close, your gonna want more than one box of ammo I presume.

I would jump on the CZ82 in 9mm mak first.(around $200)  These won't last much longer.  I think www.centerfiresystems.com still has them. These are an exact military copy of the CZ83 they rock.  The 9mm mak ammo is around 500rds for $100.

The CZ52 in 7,62x25 (around $149)some guys like it and some don't, it has a different feel to it.  You can't dry fire it because of the firing pin.  There is some romanian 7,62x25 let yet too i think its 1224 rds for $122.

What about the romanian tokarev in 7,62x25?(around $200)  There is a small supply of these being offered right now too. I like that better than the cz52.

Your going to get both anyway so i would grab the cz82 first.  You may want to get two of the cz82's after you shoot the first one i'm sure.

The Cz 52 is a great pistol. They are still pretty reasonably priced right now.
If you have your C&R 03, everyone should, you can get one from SOG for
a great price.

thanks all i am sure i will end up with both just trying to sort money to be able to buy more than one gun and not sure how hard it is to reload for either i think the mak might be a tad easier due to straight wall case. I have looked at the romanian tok but not held one yet going to gun show will see if they have any of them there.

Feel the romanian tok its the cheapest of the tok's right now.  The dealers are still offering them for around $200 while on gun broker or auction arms there hitting $350 already.

Beaware of the Star "B" in 9mm luger too.  SOG has these time to time too.  Or keep an eye out at your gun shows.  Its a copy of a 40's colt 1911 in 9mm luger.

I don't want to confuse you at all but you must know whats out there so when you see it you will know what it is.  I'll give you a little list to search them out and learn about them.

1.  CZ82 in 9mm mak  Czech military version of the CZ83 at $209.C&R

2.  Romanian Tokarev in 7,62x25 tok  some of these are in unissued/new condition at $200.C&R  These also were made by the Russians,  the polish,  the hungarians, the chinese in both 9mm luger and in 7,62x25 tok too.

3.  CZ52 in 7.62x25 tok  You can't dry fire it do to a weak firing pin design.  These are around $149.C&R

4. Star "B"  in 9mm luger  I see these between $200 to $220 at times too. C&R

5. Star BM in 9mm luger its a smaller pistol but not a C&R but its one to look at too you may like it.

6. Star A or super in 9mm largo  and the Astra 400 in 9mm largo. C&R's

7. Astra 600/43 in 9mm luger.  Its a weird looker but a good shooter too.

Just a little food for thought when your out and about at gun shows. You just may see one cheaper too.

I have both the CZ 52 and CZ 82 and had the good fortune of getting them both at the same time.  If I had to choose one to buy first it would be the CZ 82 for a few reasons.  In my opinion it's more fun to shoot.  With the velocity of the 52 that trigger finger really stings after couple clips.  Not to mention the 82 holds 12 where the 52 only holds 7 or 8.  The 82 is also a good concealed carry gun.  I've seen many more 52s for sale in pawn shops (picked mine up for $140 with 2 mags and holster at a pawn shop) than 82s.  I'd say get the 82 now, you won't regret it.  The 52 is a nice gun too but I think they will be more plentiful than the 82s in a few months.  Just my 2 cents worth.

Your right the cz82's are drying up with very few dealers still offering them.  And yup its my new carry gun too with two 12rd mags and 1 in the pipe its a great ccw gun for only $200.  We don't get much for $200 lately in a handgun for sure. Even the worst looking CZ82 can be redone to an excellent looking one too.

Now if you wait too long and miss out on the CZ82's I've seen the CZ83's used for $230 on average in 9mm mak,  380acp & 32acp here. In most cases these pistols were never shot and still NIB with the orginal papers.

Warning;
This CZ thing can be habit forming too, once you shoot your first one you'll be looking for more. Besides the CZ82/CZ83's the CZ75 or CZ85 in 9mm luger is another one to add to your collection too.  I've seen these also going for around $300 used still new looking too. You can save alot of $$ browsing the used pistol case in your local gun shop often.
