Looking for some help.
« on: January 23, 2009, 09:34:59 AM »
I was at the range this morning doing my best to work up and evaluate some varmint loads when I had an idea. When I was living in Iowa I was lucky enough to have access to decades of knowledge form the experienced reloaders I had made friends with. They taught me how to set up various pieces of equipment, even let me try out what they used so I could make more informed purchases.
I am now living in south east MI and feel like I'm flying by the seat of my pants. I read everything I can get my hands on but that still can not replace the hands on teaching of a good mentor. So much of quality reloads depends on that which is hard to put into words and comes from experience.
I know that most folks using the Graybeard forums love to pass down the knowledge they have gained. I myself get great statisfaction anytime I can teach some thing to a new shooter. That's possibly the most rewarding part of our sport.
So, my personal search for a local shooter that would be willing to help me work out a few problems got the old hampster back on the wheel. We have a "find a hunting partner" forum, so why not a "mentor locator". I see no reason for a full forum but how about a sticky. It seems fitting with the threads we have on "tips and tricks".

Have you tried the Michigan sportsman web site yet?
Seem to be a lot of them from south east Michigan there.

Al,
Good call. I haven't tried that yet. I might have to give that a try.
