The good part about a round with that much power is that even after hunting season is over you can still use it to split wood! :D

Ty, you're my favorite sick puppy :D :D  I can't imagine shooting 720 gr. out of a 120. :'( :'(  I just finished putting a synthetic stock set on my .45-70 and put 36 oz. of #4 shot in the stock to reduce recoil.  You'll probably need a whole 25 lb. bag on that baby.  Good Luck!!  You're a very brave young man, and your adventures are read and appreciated.

tykempster, if you get the throater from 4-D, be sure to get an extension also. The regular 45 cal throater will not reach the end of that big muther.

O.K. AtlLaw, you've raised our anticipation.  Be sure to keep us posted with your progress.  Maybe a video like young Ty.  We're all living vicariously through you guys!

How much did the throater cost to rent,

I dunno...  :-\  Never asked... He does have the prices posted on his web site though.  I think it was somewhere around $20, maybe, possibly, might be....  :-[

be sure to get an extension also.

I asked Fred about that.  Tim, I think it was Tim, had mentioned the same thing.  Anyway, he said he didn't have the extensions but one could be fabricated easily.   :-\  Guess I'll find out when they get here...  :(

I don't remember what size the shank is. You might get away with a socket extension.

You can see the throating reamer in the FAQs Throating the 45-70 link, although it doesn't show the shank shape.

Well, anyone still on the fence about reaming to 45-120 missed a great buy on Norma 45-120 headstamped brass, it was $63 per 50 on sale, it's still on sale, but for $90 per 50!!

Tim, if you type in XZ-213619 in the search box, it's still 62.99 even though the sale price is 90. Maybe pulling a fast one, but for that price I'd sure as hell try.

You could always donate it to the less financially inclined 45-120 shooters... :D

Ty, what kind of velocities are you getting with your 45-120?
