Remington model 799

Just got the new flyer from Bass Pro shop   369.99. anyone have any experience with these.Thinking about one in 7.62 x39.  Thank you Dean

  An attractive price.  However, these mini-mauser actions are made in Sebia.  Reports are that the actions are a little rough (not highly polished), and that the triggers have lots of creep.  Although referred to as a mini-mauser, they do not have true mauser actions.  There is no full length extractor, and I don't believe they have a mauser blade-type ejector.

  By the time you pay the cost for a new one of these, plus tax, I think that you would may be better off buying a used Remington Model 7.   Especially if you think that you may want a sythetic stock someday.  With some dickering, a very good Model 7 can be bought at most gun shows in any caliber for $400 to $425, out the door.

  Just my thoughts.

Haven't been impressed with any of the 798s or 799s I've looked at. 

Too many better options for me to even consider one, starting with used for less money.

  Did a little more research.  B&C makes a black synthetic stock for the 799, for about $170.00.  So, I guess if someone wants a mini rifle in 7.62x39, and doesn't want a CZ with the protruding magazine and reverse direction safety, then this may be an alternative.  But, you may have to pay an extra $100 or so to get a gunsmooth to smooth up the action and the trigger, and then, if you want a synthetic, that's extra.  So by the time you do all of that, you have spent about $620!

      I would really really want to make sure that there are no feeding problems with the 7.62 round before I bought that rifle.

I set up a 799 for our special son to use this year in 7.62X39 with a denver redfield 2X7 wideview, the bore on them per Remington is 308 and per. my caliber, not the 310 I believe the military junk is, I used remington factory ammo to gain some brass and reload Hornady BT 125 for him, he killed a nice doe this year with it one shot thru the heart lung area, at 100 yds. it will group abt 1,5 in.  I guess its not a high end rifle but it works for him and for me.   Jim
