22" or 26" for 22-250
« on: January 22, 2009, 02:12:40 AM »
I've got another ? for you guys.

For varmit control whick do you prefer the 22" savage or the 26" savage barrels in 22-250 for hunting?
I'll carry it with me while shed hunting this winter and spring while hitting fence rows and then most of the time it'll be short walks and around the house.

I've looked at the 12BVSS, but feel it's to heavy to carry far (will get me shape though).
My other rifles that I keep looking at are the 11FHNS - 12FV - 14 Amer. Classic - 16FSS and the 10GXP3.
I feel they are all good options just need some reel world opinions.

I had thought about the Stevens 200, but I'm leaning more towards the Savage now

Thanks

Steamin

I have a BVSS in 22-250, and a Stevens 200 in 223. I love my BVSS, but it's a bench/prairie dog gun, not a walk around gun. The varmint barrel synthetic stock Savage is too nose heavy and doesn't balance right for off-hand shooting to me. I prefer the balance of my Stevens for walking around and off hand shooting.

Slowpoke is absolutely correct! I have a 12fv and a 10fp neither of which do I want to carry farther than truck to bench. I have three Stevens 200 for my walk around guns. Get the 200, install a SSS trigger, mount a medium power variable scope and walk those fence rows.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!
IF YOU'RE GONNA GET OLD,YOU BETTER BE TOUGH!! GETTIN' OLD AIN'T FOR SISSIES!!!

You beat me to it, pretty much what I was gonna say too.

Buy the Stevens(it's the same action, except the trigger), buy a SSS trigger, and paint the stock to your liking. You will still have less $ in it than the price of a Savage and have a much nicer trigger IMO. Not that the accutrigger is bad, but the SSS is just that good.

Although the 14 Am. Classic is one sweet lookin gun ;D
