New 41 Mag Blackhawk In The House!
« on: January 19, 2009, 02:35:27 PM »
I bought a 41 Mag Blackhawk off of Gunbroker.com the other day.
I picked it up today. The fellow I bought it from bought it to hunt
with. He only fired a couple of cylinders of rounds through it and
never used it after that. It doesn't even have a drag line on the
cylinder! The first thing I did to it was to put everyone on this
forum's  absolute hands down favorite grip on it. ;) ;D The
dreaded black rubber Hogue Monogrip. I like them anyway. ;D
Can't wait to shoot it. Maybe in a couple of weeks I will do
a range report.

Good find, I really like the 41 Mag. I killed a lot of game with mine, when I had one.

I have a full box of ammo I'd give you if you were local.

Thanks for the ammo offer Swampman! I don't suppose you live around
San Diego in The Not So Democratic People's Republic Of Kalifornia. I have
about 300 rounds that I loaded for my Marlin 1894S 41 Mag that I need to
shoot up so that I can work up a load that works well in the rifle and the pistol.

Fantastic gun, have 20 or more Ruger S/A's.  :)
Great chambering - three .41 mags here.  :)
Grips...speachless because I can't say anything nice about them.  ;)

You can't go wrong with a .41 mag Blackhawk. I have the 5.5 inch Acusport Bisley and it is a very consistently accurate revolver. Everything I stuff in it in front of 7.0 grains of Unique is accurate and shoots to nearly the same point of impact. Mine now has an Alan Harton custom trigger with stop - light, crisp and very clean breaking.

AWESOME!!  I have a 4 5/8" barrel on my .41.  I love to shoot that gun.  Most of my blackhawks and SBHs have the Hogue grip on them.  When I pick one of them up, right or left handed, it is in a shooting position.  I don't have to worry about how to grip it.

Nice choice!!

Steve,
I have a stainless 4 5/8" 357 Blackhawk. I like 4 5/8" barrel length.
Real handy and it points nice. This 6 1/2" seems to balance real nice.
I'm going to shoot it this weekend and see how it does. It's hard to
go wrong with a Blackwawk or a Super Blackhawk. Ruger sure builds
them nice! :)

I put a Jayscot grip on my first one, back in '80. It had the 6.5" barrel. A couple of them I put an extended grip on that resembled the super blackhawk grip length. I really liked those, but many are too thick and have to be worked down for my hands. Don't have that problem with the Bisley. Bought my 5.5"SS Bisley off Gunbroker.com a few years back while I lived in El Cajon, and transfered through a shop in Santee. My Marlin is a first run model with the straight grip. Love those 41's! Frank Petrini once labeled it "the dependable magnum". I think it's like a lot of things that have competitors. You either love 'em or hate 'em. Keepin' the 41mag alive! There have been 4 old model blackhawks, 3 new model blackhawks, 1 Bisley, and 1 Marlin rifle, as well as a 14"bull barrelled TC. The old models have all been sold off, but rest continue to provide hours of enjoyment and entertainment, as well as just plain pure pleasure.

SM Bob, I have the exact identical Blackhawk as you.   I also have the Hogue gripper on mine, but mine has seen more action than yours, as in blueing wear.   The Hogue grip really helps tame recoil of full house hand loads.   I mounted a Burris 3X scope to mine as my bi-focal eyes don't do well with iron sights anymore.   You will like the 41, it is the flattest shooting pistol I have seen.  Let me know if you want some load data that works in my 41Mag.
BTW, I shot a midlan whitetail buck with mine at about 90 yds a few years ago that did a bang/flop. (only critter I have shot with a handgun)

I have had a .41 Blackhawk for years, and it is a great gun in my opinion. I have tried several grips on it over the years--but always come back to the orginal ones--I like them the best. Good luck.

Wished I'd been on here 6 years ago; I lived in El Cajon for 2 1/2 years and shot at open ranges in Ramona and Jacumba.

We could have shared notes! Gotta love those Blackhawks, expecially the 41mags!
