12FV or Mod. 200
« on: January 16, 2009, 03:52:55 AM »
Guys
I'm on a bit of a budget and I'm not going to be throwing lead for hours (coyotes-ground hogs-feral cats and teaching the boys) , but I want something that is reliable and accurate.
I know that they are both the same actions and that the 200 is with out the accu-trigger.
I've got a professional gunstock maker as a neighbor, so the ugly plastic stock isn't a worry.
I'm leaning heavily towards the 22-250 with the thought of getting a 25-06 in the future, will the heavy barrel on the 12 make that much of a difference or should I just go on with the Mod. 200.

Thanks and Be Safe

I had a 12fv in 223 that would less less than 1/2" at 100.  I think you'd be better off with the 12fv, maybe trying to find a used one.

You mention yotes,Groundhogs etc. How many shots do you take in a string? If you are shooting more than 5 shots in a string the 12fv is the way to go; many more than 5 shots with the 200 will cause accuracy erosion from over heating the sporter weight barrel.
I own both and love them but I have specific uses for each. If you can only afford one you need to determine the primary use and be guided by that.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!
IF YOU'RE GONNA GET OLD,YOU BETTER BE TOUGH!! GETTIN' OLD AIN'T FOR SISSIES!!!

I doubt that I will be doing alot of consecutive shots, we don't have alot of whistle pigs around and if you can get more than 2 shots off on a coyote around here your shooting at one running down the road, it doesn't take 'em long to hit a water way or fence row.
So I am leaning more towards the 200, I can always get an after market heavy barrel if the need arises or maybe see the need that one of the boys might have to have a 12fv for when they get a little older ;).

I'd just think with the accutrigger it may be more accurate.  If you're only going to be firing single shots, you may be able to buy a package gun in 223 that would cost more than a 200 but less than a 12fv and you'd have the better trigger.
