Who has cut their Buffalo Classic down?

What length did you settle on? Did it improve anything? Any suggestions as to who can do this, put in a new sight slot, and recrown it?

Big Blue comes to mind first for someone that cut his BC down to 27", did it himself with a hacksaw as I recollect, homegrown crown finishing techniques can be found in the FAQs.  ;)

Bison Butt, I have a 22" barrel on my SB2 which I believe is unfired or nearly so. I've never fired it and had it a few years now.  I'm thinking of sending it up to have them fit a 32" barrel on it... currently it has the 22" standadrd barrel with sights.  If you want to swap, let me know.

I cut mine down to 27" and recrowned it.  According to some information in the FAQs , the 45-70 does not lose as much velocity from the shorter barrel as some of the higher pressure calibers such as the .308, 30-06, .270, etc.  It still shoots 1" groups with the 300 grn Winchester and Remington ammo.  It was simply to long to use in a tree stand that was enclosed.

I have been well pleased with the results.

Thanks for the information.
 I have a 22" barrel factory fitted, and also a .204 Ruger.
The length of the BC is so long that I wonder if it runs out of lube before the bullet exits. The sights that are on the BC are preferable to the 22". I have a Smith Ladder sight on the BC, and shoot it shoots out to 5-600 yds. I see advantages to a shorter barrel to the 27" variety.
I was just curious.
