Anybody know anything about the Milspec primers from Midway

I noticed Midway is offering Milspec small rifle primers in their last catalog. Did anyone check them out? The catalog already went into the stove, but I think they were some cheaper than commercial primers. It's been my experience that military stuff may be cheaper, but most often it is better than commercial.

I think you'll find them a bit harder than non-milspec for use in AR15s. I've been reading of folks saying that non milspec primers are showing an indentation from closing bolt on a live round that bothers them. I'm pretty sure that's what these primers are intended to prevent. If you are using an AR it would probably be good to get them. If you aren't then I doubt there is any benefit other than cost if cheaper.

A good portion of the "mil-spec" primers hitting the market are from our friends at ATK (CCI/Federal).  As GB said, a little harder cup, but the priming mixture is the same.  Get them while they are cheaper and available.

I picked up a box for large rifle at a gun show . The dealer is at all the shows here and has good products and is stright . He said the same as GB . I will use then in a M1-A . The paper work that came with my M1-A advised not using comerical primers/rounds for the reason GB stated .

 Bills right there .. I have the same trouble in my Garand denting unfired but chambered rounds same in my DPMS 308 AP4 and my Colt AR .
 Its due to the military firing pin and the lighter constructed commercial primers ... But I'll tell you now they probably dont have them in ..Midway usa has been all but high and dry on primers for some time now .. You can get lucky and catch some here and there that are like Bench Rest.. But as far as small rifle primers ? Good luck brother ..

Dimpled primer are a pretty common thing in rifles that use free floating firing pins,sometimes this can cause what is know as a slam fire,also not seating the primer to a uniform primer depth and having a raised primers is just as bad in these type rifles.  I use the CCI #34 mil spec primer in my SKS rifle's,the Mil-Spec primer are also MAGNUM primer so work you loads up accordingly.  If you can't find the CCI #34 or #41's take a look at the Wolf primer they also make a Mil Spec primer for small and large rifle. Powder Valley carries both the Wolf WOLF 223 (AR-15) PRIMERS & WOLF LARGE RIFLE MAG PRIMERS they have the harder primer cup there about $19 per K.  Widener's also has the Wolf in stock.
