If I think this is the same rag I used to get it is published by someone named "Miller" he has a TV hunting show, then I have been there. This Co is very persistant and aggressive. Being in Canada I know I would never get to try some of the good stuff if it was offered.
They get to be a pita in a hurry. I have never had a magazine so full of advertisement as that one. 5 month before my subscription expired I started to get Renewal Notices on a regular basis.

I actually did test a few products for them.  Once they sent me a box of tracer shotgun shells.  I never renewed because they sell your address to EVERYONE and you get both junk mail and scams because of them.

Had I not become a life member in the first couple years of the outfit's existence I'd sure not be a member at all today. They are a major rip off. Even tho I've been a member since the club came into existence I think they've sent me maybe three items total and the combined value of them is likely less than $10. I've given negative reviews each time cuz the stuff was useless. None of my reviews have been published only glowing reviews of how great and wonderful the stuff was I know to be junk.

RUN don't walk away from this outfit.

I could have written that!   :o  Except I've never gotten anything from them to test.  I don't even read the magazine anymore...

I had this subscription for 1 year, way back when, then dropped it. Just didn't care for it.
My brother is a life member, says he likes the mag and all, but when I read his copies, it's just one big AD

Also--isn't this the "North American Hunting Club" Mag??  North American Hunter is the NRA magazine, right?

I'm a life member, got a great deal on a nice leather jacket when I joined about 20yrs ago, I volunteered for the test program several yrs ago, got some hand cream that looked like repackaged Snoseal, told them what I thought of it, never heard from them again, maybe if I had given it a rave review I may have received more test products, dunno.  :-\

What GB wrote +1 -
I did  a couple tests for them, never saw them published and never got any more test items.
They are very aggressive in what they want to sell you, and make it easy to buy on terms. When I realized the 'great deals' weren't quite so great when compared to some sporting goods stores 'and' I was talking myself into buying something I wouldn't ordinarily have due to the 'easy buy' - then I backed away. Due to the Life Membership, stuff still comes as flyers to buy items and the Mag still shows up in the mailbox. I share them with my friends and caution them not to get involved unless they had really deep pockets. Buyer Beware!

They came out with the leather jacket offer after I got my life membership.  I forget what I got but it wasn't much if anything!   :(  At the time I wrote them and kinda complained about it, really wanted that jacket, but they never answered...  :(

American Hunter is the NRA mag not NORTH American Hunter which is the mag put out by North American Hunting Club. They also have a fishing club and a hobby or wood working and who knows how many other clubs out of the same office. It's big business these days.

Back when I joined ya got a nylon jacket not leather. I was a Charter member of the club and became a life member in the very early days of it before I figured out just what they were up to.

In those early days they made a lot of promises they never kept. Back then they were buying up land supposedly for members to hunt on for free for life. They collect tons of money from us early members for it but strangely it was all bought up there around their HQ and never any down here where I live. Dunno what happened to it but it's been over 20 years since the last mention of it. I suspect Bill Miller and his cronies wound up owning it at give away prices. He's likely become a millionaire from club member's dues.

In those days they had the magazine and a newspaper type publication as well that you got with membership. They dropped the second pub and now only have the magazine. It has gotten smaller and fewer pages and I'd hazard a guess that at least 60% of the page space is taken up with ads. It really is nothing but one big advertisement front to back if you pay close enough attention.

They do have life member hunts each year and while they are never cheap I have been tempted a time or two by them but so far have not jumped on one.

As to the merchandise if they send it without getting your permission it is yours to keep for free if send via USPS that's postal regulations. They pulled that crap on me for awhile but I explained to them that I trashed their unwanted items and that according to Postal regulations I was not obligated to pay for it and eventually they got the message and stopped all contact with me. They still send the mag monthly and it usually takes me around 30 minutes to see and read what is of interest to me then like the other junk they sent I toss it in the trash.

The magazine is clearly NOT worth the price of admission and they offer nothing else that is either.

Look into Turkey & Turkey Hunting Mag...I've never read any, but it's put out by the same company that puts out Deer & Deer Hunting  . D&DH is solid, with alot of detailed info, as well as typical hunting stories. Just a thought.

Okay Bill, this is getting scary!   :o  Once again, I did the exact same thing with the exact same result!  Is u show you ain't my long lost (evil) twin?   :-\

No, maybe not... aside from the fact I'm extremely good looking and as virile as a 20 year old, I like windage adjustable rear scope mounts.    ;D

I got two test items. A cheap plastic pop-up lantern and some camouflage stickers you're supposed to put on your face. Both crap and I told them so. Haven't heard from them since. I also joined up for the life membership before I knew better.

You guys must have hit the jackpot, with jackets and all manor of other
freebies. When I joined in the early to mid 90's i got a junk folding knife
and two of those little doodads that you hang on the jackets zippers( that
you guys got) and 6 mos. after the renewal notices started, got so bad
they tried to make me feel like a criminal for not renewing. They have
a TV show now and Miller hunts all over the world.
