This may be old news but I just found out about it yesterday. My local Wal-Mart has the Winchester Varmint Pack 40 round boxes of the 45 grain JHP ammo in for the .223 now. It's been un-available for a couple of years. My 24" bull barrel just stacks these things up at 100 yards and many a prairie dog has fallen to this ammo fired from my gun. The downside is it's $24.95 a box now!  :o Quite a jump from the 11.79 a box I paid for the last 200 rounds I bought. Doubt I'll be getting 200 this time. :(

If I'm not mistaken they used to be 50 round boxes, did they not?  Now they are 40 round and cost more as well.

MY STORE DOESN'T SELL IT, DANG IT.

Doesn't matter we are cleaned out on all ammo right now.  As of Thursday, we had 357 SIG and 40 S&W in stock and that was it for centerfire. 

The Obama-buying has cleaned us out.  Customers can't believe that we are out of stock.  I can't believe it.  No 9 mil, no nothing. 

Does anyone have the UPC or item number for it by chance?

  My local wally world has federal 100 count packs of 55 fmj for 40 bucks  ..Which is about what i spent on two boxes of 50 count fiocchi 40 V-maxs at a local buddys shop.. The white box has never made my list for other then break in .. But i am curious about this fed 55 gr stuff they got ;)
And Sour I think they have always been 40 counts if im not mistaken .. They still have the same deal on Winnie white box here but in 22-250  40 count value packs..

I remember two Winchester white box 45gr.
40 count in foam trays for $11-12, and 50 count packed like rimfire ammo for $13-14.

The 50 count value packs were never available at Walmart here, but lots of other important stuff isn't either....like guns!! ::)

All the more reason to get into handloading! At our range, the tactical boys leave mountains of .223/5.56 brass on the ground, free for the taking. That's the reason I decided my next Handi will be a .223 (frame at Ilion now). Thrifty powder charges and relatively cheap bullets will make for long and pleasurable days at the range. Now if the snow will just back off a bit!
