How is the Beretta Stampede's durrability?
« on: December 26, 2008, 08:44:31 AM »
Hi,
Now that the Beretta Stampede has been out for several years I was wondering how well they hold up to lots of shooting? How is their durrability proving to be? Many thanks!!!

Well Skagsig40, You can probably take it as good or those who weren't completely happy with their Stampede would have jumped on and answered your question.  Being from Beretta, I can't help but believe they would be good.   You might ask on the Cowboy Action Shooting forum way down on the page.  44 Man

I've had mine, 45 Colt, 5 1/2", for a little over a year now and I couldn't be more pleased. This is my 1st Italian Colt clone and like many I was skeptical as how it would hold up to the competition. I also own Ruger Bisley's, Bisley Vaquero, and Blackhawks. It is also nice to be able to pull out a 3rd generation Colt model P from the safe to compare. 1st let me say that the colt is dimensionally wrong, Chamber throat dimensions to bore dimensions, where the Stampede is not. I also like the fact the Stampede came from the factory "NOT" needing a trigger job, unlike "EVERY" Ruger I've owned. Fit and finish is right up there with the overpriced Colt, and that would be Custom Shop Colt. Without going into my records I don't know the exact number of rounds fired but would estimate about 500 cast bullet loads. LBT 250 LFN PB and LBTK 255 Kieth loads cast from wheelweight and a lead/tin mix was and is used. Accuracy is not what I wanted from the Kieth bullet (still working on it) but the LBT LFN is equal to my custom Bisley Vaquero which I coscider excellent. The one thing that went wrong was that I lost the ejector rod housing screw and the housing fell off. I find that this is inherent to single actions as it happened on 2 of my Rugers. It's either that or the operater, (which does know better), Just didn't loctite the threads when new and/or didn't keep an eye on the damn thing,(That is probably it, but I'm not admitting it) I carried it while bowhunting and during our gun/deer season, along with just walking the woods, the finish is no more durable than any of the competition. I did read from others that their guns finish flaked after a short time, I have not experienced this happening. I believe by now I would have, so no complaints there. In fact you will not find me complaining at all about the Stampede as I am completely satisfied with the gun. CRASH87

The stampede is beefed up internally and adresses the weak points of the colt. The trigger, bolt and hand springs are made of coil spring and should outlast the colt. The mainspring is still the leaf design but includes a bushing and is very smooth cocking. My one complaint is it only sounds three clicks when cocking due to the transfer bar, but it could be seen as an advantage due to the safe carry of six shots.

The finish wear problem noted could be the fake 'casehardening'.  That finish seems very prone to wear no matter what the make of gun.  My buddy's New Vaquero's 'caseharded' finish wore very quickly and looks 20 years old after 2 years in the holster!  44 Man

I purchased a  7.5" Beretta Stampede in a .45 Colt soon after they were introduced. It has been reliable, has a great trigger, is very accurate, and is as "tight" as the day I bought it. I've put well over 1000 rounds of factory ammo and reloads through it. The case hardening has started to "flake" on one side from "holster" use; and a Beretta "rep." said if I'd send it in they would take care of the problem. (I don't want to part with it long enough to have the work done.) I did have the end of the ejector rod break after the first year of use; Beretta sent me a new one immediately on notification and said they would investigate to see if there was a "QA" problem regarding that part.
I liked the Stampede so well, that this year I bought a companion piece in a 4 5/8" BBL .357Mag. It is a real "shooter" and balances almost as well as the .45 Colt. I considered the Ruger Vaquero, another fine revolver, but the balance, trigger, and function of the Stampede has that "familiar" feel that makes me want to carry it before all others.  (Plus, I had an extra set of black "Pearlite" grips that would only fit the Beretta.)

The Beretta Stampeede is made by Uberti.
It is a better fit and finished cattleman.
The Uburti revolvers are good SAA clones and as long as you do your part it will be around for a long time doing it's part.
