Wolf 209 shot gun Primers
« on: December 24, 2008, 12:34:41 PM »
Has anyone try-ed Wolf 209 shotgun Primers? How did they worked out? Wolf primes cost less. Just wanted to know. Thanks
Here is my reason:
WIN #209 SHOTSHELL PRIMERS - per case of 5000 Yes $150.00
WOLF #209 SHOTSHELL PRIMERS - per case of 5000 Yes $110.00
for wanting to know.
I was thinking that they were $90/5000

I bought 25K Wolf primers this summer for $89/5K. I've use about 5 thousand of them without any problem.
I use them for trap shooting and load both 1oz. and 1 1/8oz loads using both Clays and ClayDot powders.
I have shot  them in temps ranging from 90degrees to in the low teens. As long as you keep your ammo at room temps I've experienced no problems. My normal primer has been Fiocchi but for the price I decided to try Wolf, have been very happy so far.
When you get right down to cost though here's what you're really saving.
$150 /5000 =  3 cents
$110/5000 = 2.2 cents
So for the better primer it's only costing you about 0.8 cents per load or 20 cents per box.  Not much except for the 10,000 rounds I reloaded this year, that works out to be $80, which I consider to be a decent savings.

I use them also. I load them using low pressure Winchester 209 Data loads. I suspect that the Wolf's are a hotter primer though. I sure wish somebody would publish data for them.

The Wolf primer performs very well and they seem consistent. In my opinion, it's a good primer.

I've loaded/fired a few hundred 20 and 12 gauge with the Wolfe primers with no problems at all. I also used them in my BP gun and they worked just fine.

I've been using them for several months after my stash of Win 209's got used up.  Seem to be doing fine
