Got a nifty E-mail from Remington
« on: December 23, 2008, 06:50:53 AM »
With regards to my recently shipped off Handi to get a couple of bbl's fitted. It gives me a repair# the SN# verifies that my rifle was logged in for "repairs" and a way to track the progression of things online.

I already like the new owners better. ;D

Hope it's not the same Progress System that Taurus uses!  >:(

Thanks for the info krochus, I really appreciate it when a company or someone that I'm buying from lets me know what's going on with the order.
Sounds like Remington/H&R is on top of it!

GOOD SHOOTING!

Oh no these are factory fresh units, in my case a 30-30 and a .50cal ML. I would be very surprised if the folks at big green would entertain the notion of fitting a used bbl

Swampman already got a used 45-70 barrel fitted to his frame at Ilion, Gardner was willing to try too.  ;)

Yeah but he works for em ;D ;)

A used bbl would have to be a great deal to be cheaper than a new one once you pay shipping both ways and the fitting fee. Typically used stand alone barrels run within 10 or 20 clams from what new ones cost.

I received one of those nifty emails too four days after I shipped in on August 4th.

The bad news is it has been showing "Repairman is evaluating your firearm for repair" ever since.  Nearly five months of waiting and waiting.

I not sure what you mean? But I don't see the factory being able to do anything with a bbl with an underlug that's too short for your frame. They're not going to be able to add material to the hinge pin trunion any more effectively than you can

i believe they will now, and have in the past, fit barrels that are too tight, but like you said, they cannot do anything with a loose barrel.

Shipped a recent Gardner Handi frame, stock and forend to Ilion on 29 DEC 2008. Requested a 22" .223 standard-contour barrel. Have not heard from them in any way yet. I'm hoping to fall in under the "good experience with Ilion" group here. Perhaps it's just the holiday break that is holding up a message from them. Standing by . . .

Db22,
When I talked to customer service on Monday before I sent my receiver off the guy I spoke with said
they were backed up a bit because of the holidays. I took that to mean they might have had some kind
of a year end shut down.
