ruger sbhh grips
« on: December 20, 2008, 02:54:57 AM »
I have a ruger super black hawk hunter (and love it). The grips are pretty crappy and I'd like to replace them. Are all ruger as grips interchangable? Will blach hawk grips fit on my super?

if the blackhawk and super blackhawk are two different frames
then i would question whether the blackhawk and super blackhawk
grips are interchangeable? dan

EEENGH! Try again.  The SBH hunter grip frame is simply a round trigger gaurd variation of the SBH grip frame.  They have the same grip panel size as standard Super Blackhawk, marked KHRN.  hence, regualr Blackhawk grip panels will NOT fit them.

Check the link I posted above.

It's pretty darn confusing with Ruger grip sizes sometimes.... the newer SBH have the same size as the newer BH
I prefer the bigger size of the SBH Hunters and the older SBH

there are supers that take regular black hawk grips. The round trigger guard 4 5/8s and 5.5 inch guns had a standard blackhawk grip frame. The new anniversary supers share the grip frame with the new vaquero and aniversary blackhawks. the draggon framed guns do not share grip frame shapes with any other ruger. Ive never owned a hunter so ill leave that answer to the guys that know.

The "Hunter" grip frame is the same as the Super Blackhawk "dragoon"-square back trigger guard grip frame, except the trigger guard is rounded. They accept the same Super Blackhawk grips. The "Bisley Hunter" is, of couse, different, and accepts only the Bisley grips.
Blkhawk73 has given you the lowdown, otherwise. And as Lloyd points out, ONLY the factory 4 5/8" and 5 1/2" Super Blackhawks were furnished with standard Blackhawk grips, and the New Vaq's and Anniversary guns share with each other a modified XR-3 gripframe.
I will also mention that there is the very rare "long frame" early Super Blackhawk, but those are not the subject of this discussion.
