My custom GALLAGER is done.
« on: December 12, 2008, 08:42:48 AM »
Hi guys.
I am like a kid in a candy shop.
My Ruger Bisley Blackhawk is back from JOHN GALLAGER and is now ready for duty.
I sent it off about AUG. 30th and it came back about two weeks ago.
I sent him an as new 7.5" Bisley in 45colt and now I have a 5.5" octagon barrel with a S&W type interchangeable front sight and a BOWEN adj. rear sight.
A steel ejector rod housing with a knurled rod.
The throats were opened up to .4525 along with a trigger job and a full action job.
It has a stainless steel Bisley hammer and a free spin cylinder.
The hammer was suppose to have been jeweled but he could not get it to come out the way he wanted.
I put on a set of RUGER factory stags with the medallions.
Shot it on target today and after three sighters was able to put the other 9 shots in a group 3"x3" at 25yds.
It does shoot about 1.5" to the left with the rear sight all the way to the right and about 4" to 5" high with the rear sight all the way down.
This is with 255 hard cast over 12.5gr HS6.
Might have to call him back and get a taller front sight and maybe turn the barrel a little to even up the rear sight.
All in all I am very pleased with his work.
I really would have liked the jeweled hammer! :-[
I have always wanted a handgun built the way I wanted it and here it is! ;)
Below is some pics.

That is a beauty, BUT it should not be shooting so far out on windage. I'd send it back for sure.

I got them off ebay sometime ago. I think I got them bought for around $80.00 shipped

I think I might try a couple of more loads and see if it still does the same.
If it does than I will call JOHN and see where we go from there.

Absolutely beautiful pistol LONGTOM! I really love the sights!
The red ramp front white outline rear are my hands down
favorite sights for the kind of shooting I like to do. Will
this fellow put these type of sights on Blackhawks?
Can you give the link to his website?

Forgot about this but came back to see again what was done as I have one I'm sending of to his shop too.  he's done two so this one will get the full facelift.  Didn't dawn on me before but ahhh, the grips...they're not fcatory Ruger ones.  There's never been factory riger Bisley grips in stag.  They've been in rosewood, black laminates (of which two disticnt shades have been made) and the newer rosewood colored lamintes appearing on the stainless Bisleys shipping to William's Shooting Supply.

These grips came on a factory custom shop gun my buddy had ordered some years ago.
He didn't like the feel of them, he has bear paw hands and they just didn't fit.
I traded him the standard factory wood grips that came on this gun even up.

Only "custom shop" Ruger's had was  a couple yeras ago when they had the now defunct division that provided engraving and some special grips and stocks.  This is all contracted out to a differnt compnay now. Not sure what, above engraving, is provided now. If such grips did come via that source, if it wouldn't paper and be confirmed from Ruger...  not trying to argue, justsaying.  Heresay is just that until it's proven as fact.

Can't say!
All I know is that when we/he picked the gun up from the ffl dealer and opened up the case they were on the gun, I was with him when he got it.
They were ordered with the gun at the time.
Weather RUGER supplied them or got them somewhere else is not known by either of us.
I don't know if he got any type of papers from RUGER with it when he picked it up.
If RUGER never offered them than I stand corrected.
Really doesn't matter to me.
They fit my hand great and I like them.

You are not confused.
It is ME that is confused!

Thank you for bringing me back to reality.
I did get them off ebay!
I stand corrected.
The grips that I got off my buddy were for a regular Blackhawk.
I was in contact with him just a couple of hours ago and asked if he remembered them and he did recall that the Blackhawk did come from the custom shop but the grips that I traded for were purchased from the ffl dealer where we/he picked up the gun and he had put them on before we got there.
SO MUCH FOR MEMORY, and being able to read my own post!!!
I stand corrected and I apologise for my mistake.
