I love the look of those rifles, but big bore rifles, shotguns and MLs with straight grips clobber me. For some reason they drive my thumb into my cheekbone creating a large ouch; not very condusive to fun and accurate shooting. It never happens with a pistol grip. Must be the way this skinny Wop got assembled.
Pistol grip or not, if you mount a tang sight on one of these, you can't reach your thumb over and around the top when shooting. When the rifle recoils, it will jam that tang sight right into the web of your hand or drag it against the side of your thumb. Either way, you'll end up with some pealed skin within the first four shots.
I had to learn how to shoot mine with my thumb on the same side as my trigger finger to avoid the above damage. It took me a few times to the range but I think I've got it down now. Personally, I never was a heavy gripper of my rifles or handguns when shooting, regardless of the caliber or recoil.
