need to justify another rifle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love my 30-30 wood -stocked handi w ejector....im hunting woods, with some field shots.I have a 30-06 savage thats going to son #1 for Christmas..her dad left me a 742 rem in 30-06...dont need another rifle...but want one...

options:
a. forget it, and use leverevolutions in my 30-30 for field shots...
b. get a wood-stocked handi in 30-06 or 270...never had anything but 30-06....a new caliber might be nice
c. an ultra-hunter in .308...like the lam stocks....
d. use the 742...its ok, dont really like semis..accuracy is just "OK"

how far do the extractors "extract"..im doubtful about a rimless cartridge...

opinions sought...

The 30-06 Handi make a dandy field rifle, and a good woods rifle as well due to it's shortness with the lack of an action.  As for the extractors, they really cut down on follow-up shots, it cost you more than twice the time to reload as ejectors.  With ejectors, open the gun and the empty is gone, just drop in a new shell and close the gun.  With extractors, you have to open the gun then pull out the empty and toss it, then reach for a new round and put it in place, then close the gun.  So make the first shot count, because there son't be a second.

Get a .280 just because ya don't have one an got the itch for a new shootin iron. It'll cover just about anything you might want to shoot and I like 7mm bullets better than .270s. 

Extractors cure alot of the stuck case problems associated with ejectors but I like the way ejectoers fling the brass out. 8)

when you have a stuck case with an ejector, there IS no follow up shot. BTDT 06 load, 130 gr hornady, 55gr. 748 win. Win brass. SB resized, not even close to max load. probably cost me a nice buck. Why? no reason for stuck case. I'm going to change it to extractor, at least I will be able to get it out. stuck case punching paper, not too much of a problem, stuck case in the field, one great big PITA. hey, I'm kinda new to the board, be gentle fellas.

All my Handi's are ejectors, 30-06, 45-70, 243, 223, 35 Whelen.  The 223 came with a bad ejector, had the factory fix it.  I have never had a stuck case.

I suggest option "a".  But I'm a believer in using what you already have and I really enjoy shooting the lower pressure rifles now.

     If you read on Veral Smith's pages someone asked him not long ago what he considered the best rifle for shooting cast bullets. He said it was the .30-06. I agree with you on the .30-30. I love mine and have a hard time trying to justify anything else.
   The longest shot I could ever get would be about 200 yards and I feel like the .30-30 will handle that quite nicely.
 Personally I'm about to explore the world of rimfire Handis.
