Rem semiauto rebarrel to .358 win ?
« on: December 01, 2008, 02:57:14 PM »
I really like the remmy semiautos and the .358 win cartridge. How difficult would it be to have say a 742 or 7400 rebarreled to .358 win? Any one have this done? Know any gunsmith that would do the work? Or how about a rebore? Any suggestions on a smith that would handle a rebore?

It wouldn't be difficult to rebarrel.  Accuracy Systems in Colorado does custom Remington 7400 and 7600 rifles with match grade barrels, regular, heavy, and full bull barrels, and lots of other options.  I don't know if you'd find anybody willing to rebore the barrel do to the gas ports, etc.  Biggest issue is money.  They aren't cheap to work on.  At Accuracy Systems, it's $900 to custom rebarrel the rifle.  For that kind of $$, I don't know if it's worth it to you.  www.remington7400.com  I think that I'd try to find a 7400 or 750 in 35 Whelen if you want the rifle in a .35 caliber.

Try to find a Gander Mountain, a buddy ask about a rebore there in.358win. I think they told him 250.00$,Don't know if it was for a 7600 or a 7400.

I had a 7600 in 35 rem. rechambered to 358 win. a couple of years ago. The work was done by SSK industries,I think the cost was about 150.00  I ordered the rifle new from Grices just for this project. It has become my favorite deer rifle. I had several gunsmiths tell me it couldn't be done, something about the barrel lug. I know you are asking about the auto but I'm just saying don't give up if that's what you want, keep looking and asking around. You 'll be glad you did.
