Base and Rings Question

I just bought a handi in 45-70.
i have a set of leupold rifleman aluminum rings, will these hold up to
the 45-70? i will be shooting the Leverolution ammo.

They should .45-70 really aint that brutal unless you want it to be.

I agree with Bob. They will be fine.

Personally, I prefer steel for bases and rings. But alum has been working just fine for many mnay years.

Biggest thing I have them on is a 30-06 Handi and they have held up fine thru several seasons. I probably have 8 or 10 sets on various rifles and never had a problem.

I am wondering wich Leopold Rifleman rings (high or medium) are required because of the hammer spur.  I have a Handi 30/06 on layaway.

The way the scope is built has more to do with the ring heigth than anything, if the power ring or something else is large and right over the hammer then you may have to go with high rings.  Medium is usually OK if the scope is built right.  Larry

I've used medium rings on scopes with small ocular rings.  For other scopes I used high, and some took Ex-High, depends on the scope.  Some scopes with short eye relief I had to go with extended rings to move the scope to the rear, closer to the eye.

I use the same ones (high) on my 45/70 and they seem to be doing fine.

 You might also have to move the rear sight just a bit to get everything in the right place. After you get everything in hand play around with it and you'll see what you need.

I have Bushnell Scopes on 5 of mine and they all took high rings.

To add more confusion, I mounted a 50mm objective scope with Warne medium rings.  Had plenty of clearance on the front end for flip open scope caps; ocular too.  The ocular isn't particularly large; about "normal" ; these have all been Alaskan Guide models.  Just about every Handi I have thrown glass on, I think the score is 6 so far, have mounted with medium rings. All have been at least 40mm, most have been 44mm with adjustable objectives.  After the first one with low rings (good idea, bad choice) all have been mounted with medium height rings, either B-Square or Warne, using the factory mounts.  The one I put high rings on will be retro fitted with medium, once I find the time.  Hammer clearance is a consideration more so than barrel diameter.  Bull or Ultra, rimfire or HB .204, doesn't seem to matter.  I would like to try the quad ring from Weaver, but haven't taken the time to order a set.

Please see RINGS in the FAQs and Help sticky, I've mounted more than half of my forty-five H&Rs with medium Burris Signature Zee rings, if the scope doesn't clear the hammer, a touch to the spur with a dremel stone will quickly "adjust" it, it doesn't take much to make it work unless the power ring and/or ocular bell is huge.  ;)
