Has Remington already killed off the "NEF" Handi?
« on: November 19, 2008, 06:51:19 PM »
All of the Handi's I have been seeing lately have the "Harrington & Richardson" brand stamped on them. Has anyone seen a new "NEF" lately? In my December NRA American Hunter magazine there is a new Handi Rifle ad, it is all "H&R", and NEF is not even mentioned.

My new Sidekick is a H&R, not a NEF.

I think Big Green killed NEF!

My guess is that all the rifles built under Remington are going to be H&R's.

What do you guy's think?

Probably depends on what names they bought when  they aquired the company, I have a NEF shotgun with a Marlin stamp on it, guess they sort of all blend together.    Larry

NEF is pretty much absent from the H&R1871 website now too.

Wasn't NEF the initials of some previous company? New England Firearms (NEF). I would imagine that Remington does not relish the thought of some other defunct company initials on their guns. ::) ;D ;D

As long as the product is still available, that's all that matters to me.

Thanks guy's, I think I see a pattern here. Not that it matters, just pointing out an observation. I just wonder if they killed or are re-labeling the foriegn made NEF shotguns too? I heard they are being serviced through thr Marlin plant?

I think the NEF brand is dead, long live H&R!

I don't think NEF was ever a defunct company, but rather bought out by Marlin, then by Remington. H&R on the other hand was defunct for a while, I believe.

Historically the company is H&R and NEF was merely a blip along the way to keeping the company alive. So yes I'd expect that Remington will let NEF die and maintain only the original H&R name.

That is exactly what I figure is happening/happened here too. 1871 sure sounds better than 1987 or whatever it was exactly.

I'm just surprised that Remington didn't make an official press release on the matter, but then again they have been surprising me for years.

Thanks for all the input. ;)
