Parts - Update ... I don't even know anymore...
« on: November 18, 2008, 03:50:39 PM »
After cleaning my 2" Tracker and drifting the front sight in an attempt to move the POI, I tilted the nose of the revolver down to load the cylinder... which promptly fell out of the frame!   ::)  Upon inspection, I saw that the Yoke Retaining Pin and Spring had fallen out of the Yoke Screw.  And, of course, these iti-biti parts were nowhere to be found.   :'(  The Yoke Screw is supposed to include the Retaining Pin and Spring; I don't know why they came apart.   :-\

So I called Taurus CS and told the rep my problem.  His reply was "those parts are not in stock, call back in two weeks."   :(  He couldn't have checked because I had barely gotten out what parts I needed when he told me this.

Is there any other source for Taurus parts?

Stop snickering GB!   ;D

You can try numrich, they are my go to for parts.  www.e-gunparts.com

If you can't find what you are looking for on the website give them a call, they might be able to track it down.

I wonder if S&W parts would fit?  We all heard the story that the Tauri are made on S&W machinery.  True or false??

Ya know, that thought flashed thru my head also.  I just wasn't quick enough to catch it.  I'm gonna try my M49's screw before I go to work!

I called Taurus again yesterday (I didn't wait the 2 weeks the first guy told me to!) and this time got a young lady who said I needed a serial number but they should have those parts in stock.  I called today and talked to another young lady, couldn't hardly understand her, but she checked and they have, and have had according to her, the yoke screw assy in stock. So I ordered 2.

I guess the first fellow I talked to just didn't feel like serving customers that day.  I knew something was up when he told me the part was out of stock almost before I said what part I needed!   >:(

Anyway, they said I should have the screw in 7 to 10 days.  Kind of a long wait...

I guess I've seen worse, but Taurus Customer Service is certainly not the best...  :-\

I called Taurus again yesterday [11/24 ed.] (I didn't wait the 2 weeks the first guy told me to!) and this time got a young lady who said I needed a serial number but they should have those parts in stock.  I called today and talked to another young lady, couldn't hardly understand her, but she checked and they have, and have had according to her, the yoke screw assy in stock. I guess I've seen worse, but Taurus Customer Service is certainly not the best...  :-\

I called again today [12/11].  After a long wait on hold a guy answered.  I told him I had not received the part I ordered Nov 24th and asked if it had shipped.  He checked the computer, (by zip code) and said the order wasn't in the system.   :(  He sounded like that was all the answer I was entitled to so I pressed him for more information about my order.  I said I was told I would have the part in 7 to 10  days.  He said they had some computer problems and it hadn't been entered yet.  So I asked when it WOULD ship.  He said after it's entered.  I asked where the paperwork for the order was and he said "probably sitting on someones desk..."   >:(  What should I do?  I asked.  "call back in a week" was the reply.     ::)

Ya know, if this had gone on before I started taking drugs to control my psychotic episodes I'd probably be on my way to Florida right now to stick that revolver where it belongs...  >:( ;)

Oh yeah, I must change my opinion.  Taurus CS IS the worst I've had to deal with!

Okay Bill... I'll say it...   ::)   You were right  I should have listened to you.  I saved a few hundred dollars but now I got a gun I can't shoot!   :-[   I forgot one of my Daddy's old sayings: "It's a wise man who learns from the experience of others."  And one of his often repeated statements to me:  "You always got to learn things the hard way don't cha boy!?"  :-[

Yup I've said that to Matt way more times than I can count. He only believes in learning thru first hand experience.

Ya know it's really a shame at one time Taurus was putting out some really good guns and I was one of their primary supporters but man did they make a turn around of the wrong kind.

I've yet to see a bad RB so I know they can do it right when they want to but it seems they no longer want to. Back when I was dealing with them last the guy who is head of Customer Service or was at the time at least was a nice guy who really wanted to do right by the customer. His problem was there was yet another guy who was over the repair department and he was not over that guy. The guy in the repair department was closer to the head honcho of the place than he was as well so it really mattered little what he tried to do for us as he was just not in control.

If they had fired the guy in the repair department and put the guy over CS in charge of the whole operation Taurus would by now be on top again and even ahead of S&W. They have some of the most innovative designs out there. I'd love to own several of their guns IF they'd make the right and back them with a warranty with meaning. Sadly they won't.

I'd still not be afraid to buy an RB if I wanted one but I sure would hesitate on anything else by them.

I tell ya Bill, I kinda like the Tracker.  I did a detailed comparison with my friend's 696, which is what I wanted, and the cylinder walls are a good bit thicker.  Of course I guess that is to be expected since the tracker is a mag and the 696 is a special.  But the trigger pull is smooth and it appears the workmanship comparable.  I think the accuracy problem may be mostly my old eyes.   :-\  I'd sure like to try it with some 431 bullets after I opened up the throats, but I have this one slight problem!   ::)

So all in all I can't really make an informed decision about the revolver; I've only got a hundred or so rounds through it.  I can however, and have, make a statement about Taurus CS!    >:(

One positive thing, I'm rediscovering how much fun handgun shooting is!   :)  I'm even thinking about a Ruger Bisley Hunter.  :P  I've never hunted with a handgun... it's been a work tool a good bit of my adult life... but, why the heck not!   ;D

If it a Ti? If so that opening up the throats might not be such a good idea. If it's a steel one then it can't hurt assuming they are in fact too small. That was one problem none of my various Taurus guns had. They had lots of other problems but none had that problem.

No, it's stainless.  I slugged the barrel at .430, the throats, as close as I could measure them, came out at 427 or 428 as best I remember.  Now I got 431 throats and a 430 barrel.  Sure would like to shoot it...  :(

Wal Richard yeah iffen they offer it ya know ya gotta take it cuz it wouldn't be polite to decline. Kick dogs? Been known to. Drown cats? Well nope I prefer to shoot them really.

But what I really really really enjoy is ribbing folks who own Taurus guns bought after I warned them not to. Now that's real fun.  ;D

Altlaw, I know it isn't funny but I have have had a good laugh at your expense. Heck, take it to a gunsmith to get it fixed and then you will have a Taurus that cost as much as a Smith.  ;D ;D I don't know what to tell you except welcome to the new world of customer service. It isn't just Taurus or gun makers. It is everywhere. Whatever you buy, when it craters, no one wants to make it right for you. There are still a few businesses that will take care of you but not many.

Just got off the line with Taurus CS.  Computers are up, my order is in the system, and the parts are on backorder!   ::)  "I would hope they come in sometime after the first of the year" he says!   Okay, like when?  Next December is sometime after the first of the year!   >:(

Write to the Attorney General in Florida and tell him the problem you are having with defective merchandise.  CC Taurus.

Do it.  It's fun & it will boost your self-image.

Or maybe take a magnet to the area on the floor where the part disappeared to.  I'd help you but I'm in Wisconsin.

I might be somewhat of an authority on Tauri because the two I have work.

I had called Taurus after the first of the year and they advised that no parts were being shipped and they couldn't check on my order as they were doing end of year inventory...  ::)

I called yesterday and they put me on hold for I don't know how long.  Finally hung up.  Called today and sat on hold for 15 minutes before a customer service rep answered.  After putting me on hold again for a couple more minutes he got back on and said the parts were in stock and they could get them shipped out to me.  Great! I says.  7 to 10 days?  I ask.  "Well, as soon as we can" I'm told.  "We're kind of backed up on our shipping..."  Okay...  :(  I don't have much faith in that though, when I asked him what parts I had ordered that he had just confirmed were in stock and would be shipped he didn't know. ::)

I'm glad I take drugs...  :'(

Stop snickering GB!   ;D
