Speer .358 220 FP
« on: August 12, 2003, 03:13:28 PM »
Has anyone used this bullet at 356 Winchester velocities for Elk.  I thought I would give this forum a try since I know a lot of you use 356 Win leveractions and I can approximate the same velocities with my 358 JDJ in a 14 inch barrel.  I have a chance to go out to Colorado for the first firearms season and hope to get a chance at a bull.  My only problem is I haven't heard of any opinions regarding the 220 gr 358 on Elk.  JD Jones recommended it over the Nosler 225 grain Partition citing better performance and positive expansion.  I can drive this bullet at 2300 fps in my barrel.  Any help would be greatly appreciated....RW

I have used the 220gr Speer at 2500fps in a couple of my 358Wins on deer.It worked great on two big mulies.I have used the 225gr Speer Grand Slam at 2550fps in 358Win and performed great on the one bull elk it was used on.I believe the 220gr would have performed as well on the elk.
